As a trail guide, personally I'd recommend a bit lower most times except on a regular all season road tire however it's very vehicle specific at that point, yours is definitely not a bad start for a situation where you are looking for a "one size fits most" type of answer.

Thank you, I agree, that "correct" tire pressure is the great debate and the more experience you have you gain more of a usable opinion of what pressure works for you and each setup becomes very personalized depending on terrain, tire size, tire brand, wheel width all of these things makes tire pressure not just a one size fits all.

Should you always air down? Like even on just a dirt road in the mountains? (I’m not talking about soft sand or rock crawling). Just dirt roads for OHV. (I have a Honda pilot with awd and Falken Wildpeak AT trail tires)
@FMCOverland
@FMCOverland Ай бұрын
It’s personal preference BUT if I plan on being on FS roads all day and possibly into the next day, I air down to 22psi, helps keep the ride smooth

I have a 2007 2500 6.0 gas Chevy with all seasons, but need to tow an 18ft trailer up a moderate hill of wet grass. Will this give me more traction and up the hill ??
@FMCOverland
@FMCOverland 5 ай бұрын
Essentially airing down tires gives your tire a larger footprint, a larger footprint will give you more traction in most situations, the addition of the trailer does changes things in regards to the amount of weight being placed on the rear tires, so that would be a judgement call IMO. And at the end of the day, wet grass, slight incline and a trailer your best friend will be momentum…

Would you use the same formula for passenger tires driving on snow and ice?
@FMCOverland
@FMCOverland 6 ай бұрын
Oh…snow and ice are different scenarios and being that I live in the South I wouldn’t want to give you bad advice but I have offloaded in the snow and I still drop pressure in the snow

Interesting… I guess a 275/65r18 aired down to 18psi on a 18x10 wheel on a 3/4 ton ford set up with an overland tent and a diesel motor…. Yup.

its a good general rule for beginners, doesn't mean it applies to all

What psi is good for heavy load? If street is 50psi what is the lowest can you air down to be safe?
@greasemonkey4god
@greasemonkey4god 3 ай бұрын
@@livebrando define heavy load? I probably wouldn’t go below 30-35 if you are on a 3/4 ton with a camper. Providing you have a good tire with 3 plies in the sidewall.

I’ve aired down to 4 on stock non-beadlock rims at least 29 climbs (midnight run in marble falls TX lvl 5) in a row. You are wrong 100% sir.
@FMCOverland
@FMCOverland Жыл бұрын
Congrats to your 4 PSI, weird flex but I don't see how this is 100% wrong, its a general rule for beginners, I do mention how you will figure out your preferred PSI as you gain experience and as you must know tire selection makes a difference since different ply’s flex at different rates. But thanks for the comment. Personally I run 12psi on non bead locks, but each person finds what they like.

@@FMCOverland , wow not sure what triggered Jacob but I thought it was great advice. Have done plenty of trail rides with guys like Jacob, know it alls who seems like their only goal is to one up everyone. I prefer your style giving simple advice to newcomers to grow a better community. Keep the rubber side down and keep making these videos.

@@FMCOverlandreally weird thing to do for someone that is just trying to help the offroad community. I have only air down to 20 since i don't run beadlock wheels. Haven't had any issues getting up and where so far. But i will definitely try to go down to 17 as suggested to see if there are any noticeable difference. Thanks FMCOverland.

In the send 17psi is to much. About 8-10psi in the send.
