Phoenix Ancient Town (aka Phoenix Ancient City or Fenghuang Old Town) is a small, charming ancient town in Hunan, China. Ancient Fenghuang, a village in central China, used to be a frontier town, separating the Han civilization from the Miao and Dong minorities. It was an important regional center for trade and cultural exchange. I'd heard great things about Phoenix Ancient City's beauty and it was only about a 3 hour bus ride from Guilin so I headed there next to explore and see what this off the beaten path ancient town was really like.

My friend visited China recently and felt a lot of culture shock as well - you are not alone! Also the "say no to feudal superstitions" sign is incredible haha

Haha wasn't that sign so interesting?! That was only a little tiny piece of it, there were so many suggested behaviors on it. Glad I'm not alone in it :)

Wow you are super brave doing that alone , interesting place , can’t believe the woman was washing her clothes in the river , didn’t think they still did that , I bet the food was good 👍
