A very informative and "on point" vid. We have all of the stuff you mentioned except the bladder and will get one now. Our channel is new and aimed at "senior" travellers and will have a lot of off grid content next year when we finally get our new van.

Hi Guys, great video. I have a 200w portable solar panel. I use the usb on the controller that seems to recharge our items instead of using an inverter. Just a thought. Cheers.
@ourrealitytravels

Thats definitely an option for any items that support USB charging for sure! The biggest one we struggled with is the Macbook charger which I couldn't find a 12v option.

My hubby is a techy, and reckons we can get away without an inverter. Laptops and phones etc can all be done from 12v (or is it 24??) and he says it's silly to go up to 240 only to have to come back down. Plus we won't be using plug in things like a coffee machine or toaster etc. Not really sure what else we'd need an inverter for...

Have you ever done a video on weights? Generators are handy when there's no sun or overcast
@ourrealitytravels
@ourrealitytravels 4 күн бұрын
No vids on weights sorry. Could be handy, but to be honest we have never needed one. I would be much more inclined to spend more $$$ on lithium setup rather than carry a genny. DCDC from the car to top up the batteries if you got desperate with no sun. Cheers, ORT.

Hi Jarrod, its Fleximake. They are an Aussie brand made in Vic. We are very happy with it. The website is FMEstore

Hi Guys, iv been looking at the same bladder, wondering how you transfer it from the bladder to the van, do you need a little inline pump or something?
@jorjimaco5331
@jorjimaco5331 3 жыл бұрын
My transfer pump is a 30 dollar bucket shower from super cheap and if that breaks I’ve got a back up drill pump (never breaks tho)

@@jorjimaco5331 yeah iv been looking at a drill pump
@ourrealitytravels
@ourrealitytravels 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Troy. Yes I opted for the inline pump which Fleximake do as a package when you buy it for a few extra $. I then wired it up with a cigarette lighter socket so I can plug it into the car easily. Go for a high capacity pump as it is quite slow. Cheers

Hi is that a towel rack behind your heads or did it come with van
@ourrealitytravels
@ourrealitytravels 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, it's actually a curtain rod used as a towel rack. It should actually be part of our hacks video! Super cheap solution for an easy spot to hang some items on outside the van, under the cover of the awning. Cheers, ORT

@ourrealitytravels 2 жыл бұрын
@@dragstar1012 You will love it mate! We have always had the fully enclosed annex with us, and can honestly say we've only ever used one end of it ONCE in all our travels. I think if you were pulling up somewhere for a month then maybe I would, but honestly I'm going camping to be in the outdoors and just the awning is enough for me. Most stations or camp grounds that have baits anywhere near them are very open about it, I would always keep them on a lead if you're told there are baits around. Cheers

All good we are going to put muzzles on them where ever we stop we intend to free camp around Australia they say to travel to top of wa and Queensland between April and October what are your thoughts
@ourrealitytravels
@ourrealitytravels 2 жыл бұрын
@@dragstar1012 WA coast is amazing, we were up in Broome in October one year and its starting to get very hot, so yes, earlier in the year is better. Be aware the further down in WA you go in the summer months it will be very windy. April-Sept is definitely peak season up north.

I like the idea of solar but when i look at all the things for solar its 1200$ cdn again starting from a single battery vs 450$ for a 4000watt gen set...
@ourrealitytravels
@ourrealitytravels 2 жыл бұрын
Yeh fair call, I think now as solar is becoming more and more affordable and efficient its getting hard to go by though. Gen set has storage, weight, noise and fuel implications but if you want to run AC offgrid its a much simpler & cheaper option than solar. Cheers, ORT
