Office clipper airscreen seed cleaner demonstration

Andy and Ross use the office clipper airscreen seed cleaner to separate different size crop seed and weed seed. This cleaner can be used to clean grass and wildflower seed used for conservation plantings. It is one step in the process of preparing pure live seed.

Very nice! What are the screen measurements needed for each grain? I’d like to clean a variety of seeds…red clover, rye, barley, oats, peas, spelt…is there a reference table somewhere online?

What are the black seeds? Whenever I order 50# of oat seeds, there's all these little black seeds and my birds don't like them.

wash? i dont think seed cleaners wash seed. instead they separate seed from unwanted material

Does that actually warsh them seeds? And where's the guard?

It’s like a dry clean, the guard is 4 legged and most likely in the yard

separating two crop seeds from one weed see? im confused this seems like overkill. I mean it might have use in polyculture but thats usually harvested by hand which would negate two crop seeds being together. I assumed seed cleaners were to separate light weed and unfilled crop seed from crop seed, if you get a chance explain when two crop seeds would be applicable?

Your post is five years old, so I guess you won't see my response. I plant winter rye in the fall, then plant peas into the same field in the spring. In the summer, I harvest both crops at the same time and use a much larger Clipper to separate the seeds. It takes multiple passes through the machine. First pass is to clean the rye. The peas go over the top screen and are gathered. Weed seeds and undesirable material are cleaned out and the rye is stored. Second pass to clean the peas. The splits and unthreshed heads are cleaned out. I plan on adding vetch to this mix next year. There are times when I think I could also harvest the cover crop I plant after rye, which includes oats, buckwheat, tillage radish, vetch, peas, etc but I've not had a chance to try it out.

This is just a demonstration, seeds with four different shapes and size were used, two crop seeds were handy.
