Coaches aren't really mad at the qb for running. They get upset when the don't slide. The rules protect the qb, so if he slides down he can't get hit.

My friends father was a diehard Vikings fan, and a decent cartoon artist. He hated Steve with the deepest respect. Because of their matchups, he made a drawing of Steve running down the field, with a Santa Claus style sack over his shoulder, with the rest of the 49er offense inside it. So you want to learn a bit more about American Football? "In June of 1963, Vince Lombardi spoke at a coaching clinic in Reno at the University of Nevada. (John) Madden signed up as soon as he heard about the event. Madden thought he knew everything about Lombardi and his offense. For a young coach, Madden thought he had a lot of football knowledge. 'But I didn’t know anything, ' Madden later recalled. That day Vince Lombardi talked about the Green Bay sweep play. He talked about the play, showed film, covered the normal defensive adjustments to stop the play, how to counter the adjustments and answered questions. The presentation lasted eight hours! He talked about one play for eight hours. "

Muscle Memory: Good luck trying out American football, basketball, baseball. I played all three all my life and when I lived in Mexico, good friends took me to play soccer. They were very kind, but I couldn't perform the simplest of movements, normal to them, but my muscles just didn't recognize them. It's the repetitive movement in various games that let even weekend warriors play games. You'll see. You'll tell your bodies to move as you saw on videos, but the muscles just won't perform ... unless you practice over and over.

QB must know the role of everyone the field for each individual play.

You are correct that QBs don't run a lot. Most can't run, so that sorts itself out. But those who can, consider there are 32 teams and at any given moment, only about 10 teams are happy with their QB. There just aren't enough humans who can throw a ball that accurately. Therefore, injury is a major concern.

The other thing about QB runs is that they're often not particularly good at it. There is a lot of specialization in American football, and quarterbacks are usually chosen for things like passing ability and decision making. If a QB is good at running with the ball, that's definitely a bonus, but many of them are not.

You are correct. Vick was arrested for dog fighting. He was known for his elusiveness and ability to run the ball. Him and Lamar Jackson are some of the best to be "scrambling Qb's" Theres obviously more but they are probably the best of them in my opinion.

The quarterbacks are like the field general and are usually the highest paid player on the team. Teams invest a lot of money into a good quarterback to run the offense. So if the quarterback takes unnecessary hits and gets hurt, most of the time it affects your entire teams' chances of going to the playoffs. If you are going to react to running backs, You should check out Walter Peyton or Barry Sanders. They both changed the game. Amazing talent.

Quarterbacks also wear less pads than anyone else but the kicker. So when you see QB's run they are actually taking a much bigger risk than most other players.

I get so nervous when a QB runs LOL Most have such a weird build to them, exaggerated by their pads, and it looks painful. I keep expecting them to limp away regardless of how seamlessly the play was executed.

Great video lads! Specially for getting ready for the first wave of games of today, in about 2 hours and a half. You guys should watch some of the games today. And yes, Michael Vick was famous for being a running QB, maybe the best ever. (Let's see how Lamar Jackson pans out) Cheers!

The fake handoff is called the read option. Where the offensive line leaves a defensive end unblocked. If the end goes after the RB the QB takes the ball or vice versa. It basically ends up that the defensive end makes the wrong decision.

Coaches teach QBs to slide to avoid getting it. Certain players like Lamar Jackson and Mike Vick don’t often slide, they are so fast they can reach the sideline or the control their body to avoid big hits.
