"The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is the third episode of the first season on The Rookie. This is the third episode of the series overall.
Nolan and Bishop chase a group of thieves and Nolan loses a bag of stolen money when a street performer runs off with it. The precinct learns that the thieves are part of a gang who have pulled off a string of heists and they begin searching for the remaining gang members. Meanwhile, Chen helps Bradford as he readjusts to being back on duty while also trying to help his drug addicted wife, who reveals to Chen she was once a narcotics cop. Elsewhere, an arrest of a former college athlete causes West and Lopez to talk about alternative careers to police work, since Lopez still doubts West's ability to handle the job.
The Rookie is an American police procedural crime drama television series created for ABC by Alexi Hawley. The series follows John Nolan, a man in his forties, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department. The series is based on real-life Los Angeles Police Department officer William Norcross, who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and joined the department in his mid-40s.
The series stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin Jr., Mercedes Mason, Melissa O'Neil, Afton Williamson, Mekia Cox, Shawn Ashmore and Eric Winter.

I really enjoy your commentary on these shows, especially that you don't just bash everything as "not realistic" but keep in mind that it needs some dramatization for TV. Makes this always a very enjoyable watch where I can learn a lot about law enforcement in the US.

I would love to see them react to the openings of the episodes that are random parts of their day on shift, that’s don’t have anything else to do with the rest of the episode. The the Escape Room with Bishop & Nolan. Or the Bee Car with Lopez & Nolan. The guy with the never ending knives with Nolan or Lucy going on American Idol. And please make sure they know that the actress why plays Lucy is an actual singer. That she won Canadian Idol when she was really young & that she’s been on Broadway.

One of the first things I learned when doing moderate level casino security is this: No matter how fast someone is, they can not outrun my radio. As for the SWAT meeting, they could have cut in toward the end where they gave the information they needed for the context of the show while indicating that the meeting was much longer.

The button would lock em both, but if she got out after him might unlock from opening it. I worked on police interceptors for like 5 yrs (privately owned company in MA that only sold/outfitted/repaired municipal vehicles). Its happened a few times where the door unlocked. It does not work on the rear doors as the child safety lock is always on so door doesnt open whether its locked or not.

Dude 1) you are a real hero because our fleet service guys were life savers with fixing our patrol vehicles 2) that's the best explanation I've seen so far for the door being unlocked lol

@@OnlyCops I actually had an officer tell me i saved his life, i used to install the fire suppression panels on the crown vics back in 2010s. I did it for every Mass State Police crown vic that came in. He got hit by a drunk driver, while parked, got knocked out and the panel shattered releasing the fire suppression powder. I know some of their cars came with the fire suppression buttons (because crown vics had a metal fuel tank next to the metal exhaust) and he said because he got knocked out he wouldnt have been able to hit and probably would have died. That hit so hard when he told me ill never forget it.

I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure they are supposed to manually lock their own doors with that little press button thingy. The one by the window? Incase the key fails LA doesn’t rely on technology. Off topic, but some of these episodes show them getting all butt hurt when FBI or something like that takes over the case… would the patrol even really care?

The button locks the doors. However, in my experience both front doors can be opened from inside when locked. So it's possible that he hit the button before she opened her door.

When you look at 4:20 frame, it's locked. Then at 4:37 the frame shows it unlocked.

My Explorer can be unlocked with an app on my phone so it was probably Sgt. Grey unlocking it from the station to frame Nolan. 😜

Being that I was on a SWAT team when I was in the Army and do you think there's a difference between the Army and Police Departments SWAT teams and the briefing was intense and we had a packet of what we were going to do and it finite

It could definitely happen, but it's pretty unlikely. Code enforcement would have been all over a construction project that big in the middle of a city like LA so it would be hard for that to go unnoticed, but it definitely could happen if someone was motivated enough.

It's probably due to cost, having a dog handler, a trained actor dog, and the car might be expensive and showing a bite without a bite suit would either look fake or pose a huge danger to the cast

I know this one! The term cop predates its use as slang for police. To cop meant ‘to take or seize’ so it started being used as just another way of saying ‘to arrest’ in the mid 1800s, evolved to ‘coppers’, then finally just cops. Also cops like to get frisky 🫴

The dumbass comments from Sergeant Gray about SWAT remind of McNulty’s comments in the season 1 finale of The Wire where he’s says “a bunch of guys who probably haven’t fired their weapons since the academy”, lol like what?! That’s all SWAT guys do all day when they’re training and I can be more than sure that Baltimore PD’s SWAT team stays active as fuck. Idk why Hollywood has that portrayal of SWAT officers like they’re a bunch of dumb meatheads with no training that just go and break shit rather than the consummate professionals they usually are.

A question: if cops lock the doors every time they leave their viatures, how do they get in when they are in a hurry? Every officer has a remote control they press whan thay need to get in?

In most modern patrol vehicles we have key fobs that open the door when we are within a certain proximity or when we hit a button just like civilian cars. But even if we had to use a key to open it, I would rather have a car to get back into than have it stolen 😅

Pre 2020 it was not allowed at my old department, most agencies now are hurting for recruits so policies have changed to allow for it. I'm all for beards and tats on cops
