As a Canon user for a decade who switched to Sony 2 years ago, I have to say I've never lost faith in Canon cameras. I was priced out of their lenses. I can't justify the premium of Canons lenses or GM for that matter when the Sigma art line exists.
@mrwashur1991
@mrwashur1991 Жыл бұрын
I mean even the gm lenses are cheaper than canons counterparts. But I completely agree with you. Canon is shooting their own foot with this strategy. They at least need to focus on mid range to budget glass. The other issue I see is they only have to compete with themselves so they won’t have to make better glass for cheaper like Sony does with sigma/tamron. Third party glass just help breed better lenses for a better price. Which I feel like canons mid range/budget options will be trash so people buy their red ring..

What's MIND BLOWING is the pro 1DX mark 3 has a 20.1MP sensor (same as the R6 mark 1) and that camera still sells for $6,500!! That one also has no IBIS, and a slower autofocusing system. Now you can buy a better camera than that (basically what Peter McKinnon started his whole career with [1dx mk2]) for an absolute fraction of the cost with so much more!! I love that the R8 is light and easy carry, and I won't be too scared to take it out on every day occasions. Buying one to replace my R6 mark 1 as I just shoot for fun.

@@Bad_Wolf_Media of course it’s not a 1 to 1 trade off… at $1500 you’ve gotta give up something. The point is, you can still get a very good camera with those more pro body features and not spend $1000 to go up to an r6ii

@@simonmaduxx6777 the fact of the matter is, any modern interchangeable lens camera is gonna deliver fantastic image quality, going to a crop sensor isn’t just gonna make your images turn to shit. But if what you truly value is the best image quality at $1500, you gotta give up things like ibis, battery, dual card slots and an autofocusing joystick. I agree, R8 is probably a bigger deal for Canon than R6 ii, which I just bought. This is an excellent camera to start with FF. A $1000 put in a better lens will give much better quality photos than a better body would do, especially when the sensor and AF are the same.

Yup, lens is way important than the body.. ibis is also a plus for both lens and body.. the digital IS on the r8 crops the image, so there goes that full frame idea, also when paning left to right quickly you get that wobbly warp on the side when shooting video.

The R8 is more similar to the R10. It's basically the full frame version of the R10. Same FPS, same megapixels etc. But it's full frame instead of APS-C. The R7 is more like an APS-C version of the R6. Whether you should go with R7 or R8, you should ask yourself what you consider most important to you: IBIS, full mechanical shutter and extra reach (R7) or better low light performance, more shallow depth of field, higher image quality and dynamic range (R8). Also keep in mind the lack of crop lenses available for the R7 (for now, you'd have to use exclusively full frame lenses, which don't function as well on crop sensor cameras).

Canon are unlikely to do it. They already have some pro sports shooters using the Mark 1 R6 instead of the R3 or 1dx3. They want pros/enthusiasts to buy the R6,R5,R3 or (when it comes) R1. Those cameras [will] have vertical grip option or built-in, but they are not cheap. When Canon becomes serious about competition it will perhaps be too late. Maybe then they will release some much desired equipment, for example the RF70-200 f2.8 (or even other L telephotos) with a black rather than steal-me white option. They already brought back eye control focus from the EOS 3, much improved too. The lens line up is going to take some time though imo. It is missing the lighter (than f1.2) ~f1.4 primes and f4 zooms that most non-full timers might be interested in, and their cheaper stuff e.g. 8f f2 lacks the quality and build of the better lenses in the L or GM range. In fact, there's not a single RF lens that I want (over EF equivalent) in my pack yet because my ideal line up is 20 f2.8L, 35 f1.4L and 85 f1.4 L, and all must weight less than 800g and be less than 4 inches long (or might as well use EF). If I moved to Sony I could buy the lenses I want. The only thing that is putting me off is Sony bodies don't feel as nice in my hand, and the menu system has a font that makes it harder to read and get used to.

Canon are getting it so right lately. The only issue Canon ever really had was lagging Sony on their mirrorless range. Canon was always top-dog with lens availability and overall usability (an underrated item). Currently I'm OK with my 6D and M50 but the amazing eye-detect focus may make me upgrade, for portrait work. It means you can just chat to the subject, taking photos, without even looking at your camera.

At 14:00 with the image stabilization issue of NO IBIS in the body itself of the R8, that actually really SHOULDN'T MATTER as the camera is light enough that you can use those cheap $70 Amazon Special camera stabilization systems that just use a fancy weight on an inexpensive gimbal joint to keep the camera steady. I used that cheap gimbal on an RP and it worked just fine! Completely smooth and steady shot even with cars whizzing by and the shaking of bridges. Ironically, I have access to EVERYTHING on the market I could ever want (i.e. 1Dx3, Arri-FF, Sony Venice, In-house 16K, etc) BUT I like my old M5 and the RP the best for my personal work when I have no room to keep a big camera with me. I also use a fancy 64 Megapixel smartphone and a 120 megapixel smartphone and those are starting to catch up to even the bigger cameras. I would like to see a Canon M5 style camera combined with a full touchscreen Android smartphone back! I don't care if it's a full inch or more thick! Just give me the biggest APS-C Canon sensor possible on a smartphone with ALL the smartphone features and calling/internet/gaming abilities we take for granted! It will sell like hotcakes when they do that! I do know APPLE is working on a monster-size APS-C sensor smartphone that looks like it's using a 48 Megapixel Sony Exmor RS APS-C sensor for best daylight image quality and pixel binning for STUPENDOUS 24 megapixel super-low-light capable images, so Canon better get cooking! Apple personnel have secretly said they can keep the phone to less than 10 mm thick using some focal plane manipulation using photosite-based micro-lens trickery on the FIRST APS-C sensor in a smartphone! Other people in smartphone engineering circles have said Apple may have a second line of high end imaging-oriented smartphone used for different purposes much like Canon's old-style 1Dx versus 1Dc line where one line was stills and the other for cinema. Apple LOOKS LIKE it may do the same by having one smartphone line for "Normal" iPhones and another line for the video / cinematographers and still photo experts that have high megapixels (i.e. greater than 120 megapixels!) and/or much larger image sensor sizes (i.e. APS-C). I don't think I ever had as much fun with a camera as I did with my M6 II, used primarily for birds and wildlife along with the Sigma 150-600C and Tamron 100-400 Di VC. But I recently upgraded to the R7 with the R 100-500. While I hesitated over the price, there is no comparison. The R7 subject tracking is excellent, especially the bird eye autofocus. And the Canon RF lens outperforms the third party lenses in weight, AF responsiveness, image stabilization, and image quality. If you can manage the price, it's worth it.

Hello Jared Fans. I need your crowd smarts: I’m not a beginner, not a pro either. Not yet anyway. I mainly shoot portraits, some landscape and street as a hobby. Currently with an original R, invested in some nice glass the last years. Now it’s time to upgrade the body. My main issue with the R is the very slow AF. I can get a R6 (not the M2) or the R8 for roughly the same price. What do I do? Is the original R6 still an upgrade to the new R8?

Whileas the Sensor & AF system from the R6 II is no doubt being excellent, also max 40fps for action, it comes with drawbacks also : 1) substandard EVF into 2023+ (2.36 mill dots, x0.7 magnification ratio EVF - clearly 2013/14 A7/II alike) 2) missing IBIS ! 3) mediocre battery life - best you put 3 or 4 to shoot over a day. 4) Price germany: 1799 EUR body only, 1999 EUR with Kitlens !

I'm a landscape photographer who is still using an EOS-R. I didn't go to the R6 because I didn't want to lose 10mp, especially when i often have to crop.. I was intrigued when the R6MkII came out, and it's still on my radar. I love the R, and the only things that are making me even consider a new body is HDR and IBIS. When shooting HDR with the R, you have a long "Busy" message while the camera is processing the images, during which you can't do anything. I've used an R6, and the HDR processing in it is almost instantaneous. Mark one up for the R6/R6Mkii. I would like to have IBIS, which the R6/R6Mkii have, and the R8 does not. Not a deal breaker on getting the R8, but it's a thing. So, do I plunk down $1500 for an R8, or $2500 for the R6Mkii? The deal breaker for the R8 is the battery. I spend a lot of time in the field, so I may change batteries many times during a day long shoot, and to make that possible, I have 5 batteries for the R, that will also work on the R6/R6 ii. I don't want a lower capacity battery, and I don't want to have to buy 4 or 5 new batteries. Sorry, but the R8 is out for me, and it's a shame...

I live in the Charleston area and love shooting at Magnolia Plantation. I have an annual membership and go often. The old rice field is a great place to get shots of wading birds, eagles, and gators. I had to laugh at the deer and pig. They used to have a food dispenser that you could get a small amount of food to give to the critters. They had to stop because they were being overfed. Unfortunately, they also have learned to associate people with food handouts and can still get pretty aggressive looking for food. My daughter had a deer try and eat part of her camera bag. @leonardlevine1254
@leonardlevine1254 Жыл бұрын
Do you need IBIS? Probably not, because you will likely need to have quite fast shutter speeds for sports, and most of Canon's lenses already have built-in IS. Full mechanical shutter would not matter for sports. It's only if you need to shoot with fast lenses (for bokeh) at very fast shutter speeds (over 1/2000 or 1/4000th of sec), as using "first electronic" can cause some artifacts in the bokeh at those shutter speeds. Other than this, what you get with the R6 is a better/larger battery and dual SD card slots. It's up to you whether you think that is worth another $1000 or not.
@TomislavMoze

I use my R5 and R6 for sports, I’m a red bull photographer so I do different sports. And it is fine to use electronical shutter for most of the sports. But in some cases it could produce banding.
