4 жыл бұрынHi there! I am back with an exciting video about the difference of the Italian language and all the dialects that we have through Italy with a special insight of Sicilian dialects and their origin!
- Sicilian dialects are built on layers of centuries of colonization, mixing of cultures and sharing.
They are unique and colorful like The Island itself. -

Sicilian is a language not a dialect or slang. Since it’s a language, it has its own dialects. The accent and vocabulary even change from town to town and neighborhood to neighborhood in larger cities like Palermo. In Canicattì, Agrigento we say: L’arbulu eni virdi e li hiura su’ rrussi.

Yes this is correct. I only wanted to make a difference between the official Italian and the "regional dialect" for foreign speakers, especially the ones that live overseas and get them mixed up! 😉👍

Sicilian is a language not a dialect. In order for it to be a dialect of Italian it has to be a derivative of Italian and it is not. What it is a derivative of Latin just like Italian.

You are correct in a sense. Italian comes from Sicilian and then Fiorentino. But we call it dialect to differ if from the "official language".

@@learnitalianbenissimo The correct terminology would be "Regional Languages" rather than "dialects". "Dialects" more accurately are a description of accent in these cases. :)

@@learnitalianbenissimo The reason they have incorrectly been called "dialects" is due to the attempted erasure of our culture by Italian Unification and Mussolini. Their propaganda tricked many people into thinking their language was second-class or ugly or peasant. It is our duty to re-educate those who are confused.

@@atides33 in Italy we call "dialects" all the regional languages and for me to do a clear and simple distinction for everyone (especially the ones that live overseas and think that Sicilian or Calabrese is Italian) I used this terminology. Then in linguistic classes it is a different thing.

in casa nostra parliamo i dialetti marsalese e palermitano. Me patri venne da Marsala e quannu iddru parra sembra ca canta.

Ho una domanda ma quindi esiste realmente in Sicilia un luogo dove tutti anziché dire beddu dicono beddru o cavaddu ma cavaddru... perché in teoria la forma corretta è quella ddru però io non ho mai sentito usare così la d a parte di chi dice che va detta in tale maniera

Anche la nostra Sicilia è stata emirato in confronto a quello spagnolo di meno ma comunque abbiamo avuto una variante araba che si sviluppo ai tempi in Sicilia e che oggi sopravvive solo nella lingua maltese oltre che in alcune parole siciliane come Talià: guarda Balata: pietra,lastra Dammusu: soffitto,tetto Gebbia: recipiente Gjurana: rana E tante altre parole...

Romanian: Nostru, vostru, cu, omul, mortul, vecinul, doctorul, advocatul, dentistul, americanul, vinul. Sicilian: Nostru, vostru, cu, omu, mortu, vicinu, doctoru, avvucatu, dentistu, americanu, vinu. I'm starting to think Sicilian is closer to Romanian than to Italian.

I really loved your feed ! They actually are very close! They are definitely "sister languages", both "Lingue romanze" but one has Slavic influences, the other has Arabic, French and Spanish ones. They definitely are Indo-European and they have Latin as a common base!🤗
