TheRinzl2r I discussed this a little on /civ4xg/ and came to appreciate the role the priest plays in that scene. If anyone else had touched the glass one might have assumed they knew the cosmonaut on the other side. A priest is one of the few people you would assume doesn't personally know the cosmonaut yet might expect to see at the launch site. Two people who don't know one another sharing such an intimate moment in this context is admittedly powerful.

I'm a non-believer/non-religious but that scene with the Orthodox priest is very poignant and near-necessary in a game revolved around hope, faith, and the unknown. Religion has played a major part in how the human experience is shaped so it's only natural that it is portrayed.

At 1:47 they intentionally and mockingly show you the Third-Eye-Pyramid. That should've been hint enough to tell what'll really happen to religious people and orthodox priest especially, in the case of the application of eugenics on humans, but sadly only a few will understand.

My favorite part has to be the part with the Orthodox priests. I really do feel like if this were to happen, there would be something like this with the various factions and nationalities as they prepare to journey into the unknown in hope of saving humanity. I strangely enough liked the mix, of the old mixed with the new, creating some rather nice imagery.

@@degus12345 I played it for the first time and only saw one colossal alien and it was for a quest... Also not one in game cinematic and kinda disappointed the world doesn't change as civilizations advance. It's basically just the graphic on a tile changes and no other systems in the game change as civilizations advance. I would think after 5 games prior and a triple A price tag with included expensive dlc content and the game is still below my expectations. It's a 2014 pc game... This feels like some playstation game from 20 years ago with modernized but still kinda old school graphics. The gameplay is really lacking for what it should be nowadays and with all their experience and ability to reskin concepts they already perfected in five games.

bcause this game was too far ahead than its age, maybe. now, it's clear there.. our future is pessimistic. we keep growing in population. our 2050 not gonna be a golden era or something. overpopulation imbalance the global ecobalance. climate crisis becoming worse and worser now. clean freshwater becoming so scarce and yet, once we got big rain, it gonna be a big destructive rain that causing big flash flood. but sadly, we still dont have the tech to live on another planet. yet. even in 2100, we still dont have that tech yet.

Because the gameplay was just not fun. I've played through it a bunch of times, I really wanted to love this game. I absolutely adore the sci-fi setting, the overall aesthetics of the game, I think the soundtrack is one of the best video game soundtracks ever... BUT... the gameplay was severely lacking, the AI doesn't have a clue what it's doing, and after the initial fun of exploring the planet and settling new colonies, it just becomes a grind to reach the victory conditions. Beyond Earth *could* have been amazing, but in the end it felt like a low-effort space expansion for Civ 5, with a standalone price tag.

The game is not about discovering new worlds, is not about hope for humanity. is not about difficulties of living in alien planets. It's about the same "conquer the whole world" thing, just like any other Civilization. I'd really liked to see gameplay with united mankind, but all I get is just reskin of standard Civilization routine :(

A nice, representative cinematic! I'm pumped up again for Civ: BE! I think the priest is wearing robes from a real religion that exists today called Eastern Orthodoxy, that scene is during the "Slavic Federation" takeoff. The mission control scene was the "American Reclamation Corporation" (ARC) representing North America, it's equally representative, just the main focus is on a girl who happens to be from the "Kavithan Protectorate", whose symbol is on the soldier's uniform.

Well put.. They could've done any group if they wanted. But it just happened to be a girl from the Protectorate. And that's fine....because she's human and just like everyone else in that cinematic..looking for a new home.

The Priest is from the Eastern Orthodox Church, yes. They did extensive research on what one looked like, cross and all. the pendant he's wearing portrays Saint Christopher, of Travelers.

As soon as those plates slid open, everyone in the ship in front of it was treated to a high amount of radiation. Fallout's qoute: "War. War never changes." fits here pretty well. You'd think that they would avoid the conflict that plagued earth, but you can bet it'll all start over again on the new world.

If they had an option to ban yourself from playing a Beyond Earth for a designated period of time like a few weeks or months then I would buy this in a second. As it stands now I can't buy it because I know I would abuse it.

As a Russian Atheist, I'd like to state something about that Priest in the Slavic Federation Scene. In Russia, we both view that act as Religion, and symbolism! If I was that person in the Spaceship touching the Priest hand; I'd still touch his hand even as an Atheist! Why? For blessings and Good luck, and not to be a douche to him; and it's the symbol of Russia somewhat, kinda a thing with all Baltic states. In the end, that scene still gave me Goosebumps because of how cool it was. P.S Aren't Atheists including myself aren't first to care about Religious acts; but only focus on Scientific stuff?

I feel the same way. I am agnostic but still wear the cross because it's a part of my culture. That's what I think is one of the most distinctive traits of the Slavs, the union of tradition and modernism. And I hope I too see a Slavic Federation in my lifetime.

Why do some white people call this game racist? There will be 8 factions in the game, 2 of them will be white, 2 will be half white. White people are below 1/4 of the world population and get 3 factions (American + 2 European) and many white leaders. Please stop calling it racist just because in the trailer it's some Indian girl There is no East Asian people in this trailer at all but East Asians won't care to call it racist.
