If they didn't deserve it who really does? They are that good. New Years Eve was their San Diego gig pretty much every year for at least a decade that I know of. It's just how they rolled and that was cool. Studio albums are great but Budokan gained them followers they didn't have before. I remember the first time a friend got me to listen to them. Yep. Way overdue.

Robin Zander
@latintraveler11524 жыл бұрын
@callyharley Reports stated it started over Bun and Zander not agreeing on the amount of shows they planned on doing in Vegas.. Bun wanted 100 and Zander wanted 50 because he wanted to take his child to kindergarten in the fall. Bun made a comment he didn't like Zander then forced him out by getting approval of the other 2 bandmates. It cost them plenty as Bun sued and settled for 25% of back royalties and future earnings plus he still has a say in the band. Several weeks before the Hall of fame appearance Rick said some nasty things about him but you would not know it on stage.

I remember the buzz of Cheap Trick came on strong in my San Diego neighborhood. The year around1978 and I was around 12 years old. There must have been around 10 kids from my neighborhood who went to see them in concert at the Civic Center. My brother caught one of the many picks Rick flung out to the exalted audience. Leslie, the hot chick, on somebody’s shoulders. It was like the kids from the Sandlot go to their first good rock n roll concert. It was pre-teen bliss. I’ve been to a lot of concerts since then: The Who, The Stones, Elvis Costello, Wilco, to name a few. But I’ll always remember that Cheap Trick concert as one of the best. They are a great live band.

Cheap Trick's entire career has been writing infectious, effortless, catchy and fun rock that you can't get out of your head. People pass that up as frivolous or easy. Yeah, it's not, that's why there's 10,000 angsty, dissonant bands and just one or two bands a generation that write like Cheap Trick, or even can. Try it sometime....just try to write a "Surrender". Anyone can emote and play fast. Write an anthem that no one will ever forget.

Robin's speech is one of the most sincere, humble, and moving of any in RRHF history; and well orated. Each of the members spoke kindly, and sincerly, there speeches were interesting and personable; and that they were all gracious, as well as congratulatory and/or complementary of so many others speaks volumes about them; it is definietly part of the readon for their longevity in the industry. Cheap Trick as a whole had always seemed like a band of really nice, be good, solid, hard working, and entertaining guys from Illinois, who loved music and wanted to share it with everyone. Such a unique and amazing group, from each band member, to their sound, and evey song. This is how its done, and its why they are so beloved.

If there was ever a band that created a name for themselves with sheer energy, extreme hard work and endurance, Cheap Trick would take the highest honors. From their very first album, the fans knew this was a fantastic band with an exceptional vocalist. Even though the music press at the time, and the music industry in general, couldn't deny their greatness, they never really supported this band. It was truly the raw talent of the band and the good taste and dedication of the fans that kept this band alive. If you were lucky enough to see them live in concert during the late 70s, then you can officially say that you got your ass rocked ... and experienced the true essence of Rock-&-Roll. Cheap Trick was indeed a 'motley crew, with two handsome guys, a zany clown and a cigar chomping perverted uncle, but together these guys rocked out in a frenzied, ferocious and furious abandon. Their chemistry was explosive. They came at a time when corporate rock was being created and controlled specifically for the money ... but Cheap Trick existed strictly for the music, and the fans knew this and appreciated this. There were many great bands in the late 70s, but in my humble opinion, Cheap Trick was by far the most respectable. Sure, they eventually had to cave in to "corporate rock" to stay afloat, but even then they still retained enough of their die-hard passion for blistering rock&roll to earn respect. Their true fans always understood this. Plus, even in the year of 2018, Robin Zander is still one of the greatest rock vocalists of all time.

Although I saw them live before the explosion of Budokan (I first saw them in 1977 when they opened for KISS on their first major US tour) but thankfully Japan saw something in them, and brought them to the entire world!!!!!!!!! Thank you Japan and thank you CT for being my musical soundtrack for over the past 45 years. 👍🎌🇯🇵

Much of the soundtrack to my late 70's early 80's adolescence was Cheap Trick, and finally saw them in 1990 (with Heart) at The Palace of Auburn Hills MI. What a great show my wife and I still have some of Rick's guitar picks. So glad they have been recognized as the great band they are!

That would have been in 77 on KISS Love Gun tour. It's the first time Cheap Trick was on a major tour thru Canada and the western part of Washington and California
