im never sure if shows like this are real, but this one made me tear up thinking how morbid of an experience this would be, the shame and shock and fear of you seeing yourself dead before you and you have to bare witness. what a fate, and what a cruel punishment to have to let go of life right then and there, to only know the final moments of your death, and let go.

I love the way he gives them no option to pick trick or treat, Derren decides what they are going to get even if they pick the 'wrong' card.

Everyone, there are sounds that make people fall asleep, high frequencies. The sound it made after the phone was edited so that we wouldn't fall asleep. Real. And some people in shock wouldn't just go up to someone and touch them, she was confused.

Take a shot every time she says “hello” or “excuse me”.

I have seen hypnotists plant a suggestion in a person, so that he/she will do or not do a certain behavior, like: can't remember his name, stick his feet to the floor or hand to the head, won't remember a letter or number, will jump up and do something ridiculous when a particular sound or word is heard. At any time Derren could have planted the suggestion that when she heard a particular sound on her phone that she would go into a deep sleep trance, and that when she awakens her feet would stick to the road and would not be able to move. For folks who are very suggestible,, this is easy. Derren always looks to use suggestions people in his shows. Once a hypnotherapist was chosen at random from his audience to come up on stage. As soon as Derren found out this man was a hypnotist, the man was sent back to his seat. A trained hypnotist would recognize and avoid any suggestions Derren could give and possibly ruin the act.

Ever since I found out about Derren and watched his stuff, I've been so paranoid that there are cameras in my house and I'm going to wake up buried alive or something.

I don't think this would ever work on me. I wouldn't just stand there bumbling like an idiot, I'd open the car door, and want to examine myself for myself... and I'd probably grab that guy ignoring me. lol

When you're ignored, you feel powerless. When you feel powerless, you feel dead inside. That is part of the reason why she is perturbed, before any hypnosis and lifelike model even starts to play a part. If you can converse, you can break down illusion. That's why people can have stronger infatuation with people who they've never spoken to nor even met. Those who ignore us hold power because they create mystery - the mystery of why we are being ignored. Furthermore, we don't tend to want to even try to approach, touch or shout at people who don't for even a split second try to catch our gaze. She doesn't necessarily TRULY think she's dead but she might truly think she's having the most lifelike nightmare ever, where real life and nightmares seem to have entirely merged in a believably plausible way. And that would be a sufficiently unprecedented phenomenon for anyone to experience to make them constantly baffled and trance-like .

I believe some of his stuff is real, but this is very fake. You can't just play a noise over a phone to make someone fall asleep... And it's human instinct to run when we're scared, she would have moved, and she clearly showed that she could. And to top it all off, she signed up for this, so she knows for certain that "Weird thing will happen and that will be part of the show". Still entertaining to watch, it's just crazy that people believe this stuff.

The font on the cards is designed so that depending on which way Derren holds the card they both say trick and treat, turn it upside down and it swaps to the opposite word. So Derren can choose who gets which result.

Second scenario I've seen dependent on the "put to sleep" so effectively the person can be moved and inserted into a dramatic staged event. I'm incredulous the subject is convinced she is experiencing a Twilight Zone moment, and instead is just playing along; as hypnosis participants often do.
