I was 8&1/2 when The King passed away. 6hrs before it happened, I'd been knocked off my pushbike by a van, got taken to hospital, fell asleep and when I woke just a few hours later, with sore ribs and legs, it hadn't long happened yet it was all over the news. "So what" do I hear you say? Well, I'll tell you what, I don't live in the US, I live in England and we knew within minutes of the story breaking, that's how big an event it was. I was gutted, heartbroken
@MrDarkmenace12 жыл бұрын
it seems almost impossible that any family would keep such a rusty broken bike laying around the house. When I think of how little space the Presleys had, and how small the apartments were that they had to live in. To think that they kept this childs bike long after Elvis stopped riding it, and tagged it along with them right into Graceland is beyond belief. It's almost like they knew even from a child that one day it would mean something to us all.

Thanks so much for preserveing such a big part of Elvis history. Can you imagine what a purchase this was for Vernon and Gladys and to make payments on a bike so Elvis could be like other boys his age and have a bike for transportation. To think that Elvis rode the bike in Tupelo and in Memphis is history on it's own. You know that it meant alot to Elvis for him to have kept the bike all those years. I would bet that Vernon hung it in the smokehouse with a cloth hanger cause he kept everything. It probably reminded Elvis of how much his Momma and Daddy loved him. Billy the Spa Guy knows his stuff when it comes to bikes. This is one of my favorite episodes of the gates of Graceland.

The signs of wear and the age is something that should be kept to some extent. That's just my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I think the bike looks really nice now, but as a historical Elvis item it's kind of sad that they don't have original parts like the original paint and the seat.
