During week 3 of the 1972 NFL season, the Atlanta Falcons defeated the Los Angeles Rams by a final score of 31-3, and running for a team-record 297 yards in the process. And afterwards, the Los Angeles Rams said that the Falcons were not good, because all they did was run the football... even though running the ball worked very well for them in this demolition of a game. It's a bizarre story that we're taking a deep dive into today

This reminds me of what happened to the 1950 Philadelphia Eagles. In the opening game of the season against the Cleveland Browns, Brown's Quarterback Otto Graham threw for 346 yards and three touchdowns, and the Browns demolished the Eagles 35 to 10. After the game, Eagle's coach Greasy Neale said that the Browns won because they were a team "that could only throw the ball around." They met again in week 11 of the season and the Browns won 13 to 7 without throwing a pass the entire game.

Has never worked out for UGA either. Historically, there’s been 7 Bama vs UGA games in which one team had scored 28 points. In those matches UGA is 0-7, despite if they scored 28 or if Bama scored 28. Very unlucky number for the state. UGA/Ga Tech’s first two games involved the score of 28 (28-6 & 28-0) and they split the 2. The last time UGA would lose to Ga Tech, which was Kirby’s first year (‘16) ….UGA lost 28-27. lol. My personally favorite outside of the Alabama spankings UGA has received, is that it’s a joke that auburn is in the state of Georgia. (was a jeopardy answer and rival fans went with it) A few years ago they went up on Miss St. 28-3 at halftime….they lost. 😂

end result in NFC West was that neither team won. 49ers won it for 3rd straight year after a TD pass which (you know this was coming) "you can learn more about by clicking the card in the upper RH corner"..or searching under 49ers history for the most unexpected TD (aka "Old Brodie went Witcher Way").

30+ years later in playoffs, the Falcons essentially ran all over the Rams in the playoffs, with 327 rushing to 82 passing in a 47-17 win.(142 yards for Warrick Dunn, 119 for Vick, and 66 for TJ Duckett)

I saw this game. It was a Saturday national game on CBS. Vin Scully and Paul Hornung called that game. They must have had a pot of coffee in that booth at the LA Coliseum. They could have been thinking about their hotel accommodations right down the highway (I-5)in San Diego. The next day they called the 49ers at Chargers game. A much better game. The Chargers won 13-7 in OT.

Kind of funny that Van Brocklin would have a team that just ran it down people's throats. He still holds the all-time NFL single-game passing record 73 years after he set it, at 554 yards. But I guess he was at least smart enough as a coach to make the best use of what he had.

@@tigercap100A pretty darn good team, and one that could’ve maybe won a Super Bowl with a franchise quarterback. As the Jon Bois Vikings series showed, the Rams ultimately had the second best regular season win percentage to Oakland over 1966-1989.

The Rams were a good team but went 6-7-1 in 1972. Chuck Knox replaced Tommy Prothro in 1973 and became really good. However they couldn't get to the SB until 1979 under Ray Malavasi.

Dave Hampton rushed for 1000 yards that year, only to lose 5 yards on the next play and finish with 995 yards. The following season, he rushed for 997 yards. He finally finished with over 1000 yards in 1975.

The Rams doing to the Falcons what was done to them in the game discussed here made Tom Mack look bad. He should've focused a lot more on how his team could bounce back from a poor performance instead of slamming the Falcons for sticking with a winning offensive formula.

i think this is a poor video. the guy didn't say they stunk and he didn't slag them off for running the ball so much. he just said they might be in trouble if they came up against a team that takes away their ground game. and by the sound of it that's what happened in the rematch.

ein Beitrag des Donnerstages, 2. Mai 2024 I like the "NBA Cup"! I am in favour, of the annual "Gridiron Cup", too! 64 teams 6 rounds of Knock Out 1st round, outside the NFL stadium´s; troughout August; on Sundays further matches, which include non NFL teams, also throughout August; mostly on Sundays from 2nd Round until the Sem Final: Wednesday matches 2nd Round (32): September Eigth Final (16): October Quarter Final (8): November Semi Final (4): December Final (2): on a Sunday in Early January, between the Regular Season´s last matchday, and the playoffs! The best NFL team of the "Gridiron Cup", automatically revceives a (better) play off spot! What is the "logic", behind the "Bye Weeks"? 32 teams from the National Fooball League 17 teams from the European League of Football [= 49] 8 teams from the Canadian Football League [= 57] 1 other team from The Americas [= 58] 1 other team from Europe [= 59] 2 teams from Africa [= 61] 2 teams from Asia [= 63] 1 team from Oceania & Anarctica [= 64]

The only problem the Falcons would have had is if the Rams, you know, ACTUALLY STOPPED THE RUN GAME. Yes, that seems to be all Atlanta had - but nobody was doing anything about it. If the defense somehow made the ground game suddenly ineffective, *then* the Falcons would be in trouble. So… maaaaybe talk to your defense about that, dude? Just sayin’.
