I really enjoyed this video! This was a huge moment for dad and I as the chassis we had worked so hard on, FINALLY had a done stamp on it. While there were countless hours put into trying to make sure it was done right, and we were confident, there is always some room for mis-interpretation or missing something in the rules, so it was a sigh of relief to have that checked off the list. Thank Lonnie Grim for coming up to cert it for us! Jake Shoemake and Nick Plewniak also showed up in this video (their channels are linked below). Jake and I go the engine out of the Nova and all of us got it ready to go in the 55. Jake and Nick got the tranmission out and dad and Jake freshened it up and made a couple modifications and got it ready to go in the 55 as well. At the end of the video Nick and I got a game plan for all the wiring. So much awesomeness happend here and I really enjoyed getting to look back on it. I hope you guys enjoy as well!

I have cracked a main cap and destroyed a thrust main baring letting off in the topend when the sump dried up. Lucky for me the engine was still running even drove it on the trailer. Didn't even find the crack until we pulled it apart. Only knew there was a problem as oil pressure was 8lbs at idle lol.

Long story short, thanks to Lonnie's patients and knowledge we were able to get Cleeter his 7.50 certification. I agree with what there saying about after you hit the traps, kick the trans in neutral before you pop the shoot because on deceleration the oil is forced away from the pick up so it's hard on all the motor parts from lack of oil. Been doing that for decades with my 11 second cars.

Low 6's!!?? If they get in to the 6's it will be remarkable. I know it sounds cool and makes for good headlines, but a 6 second pass, much less a "low 6" is "rare air" especially for a new build. Give it a couple of seasons to work out the weak points, and they just might approach a high 6!

@@paulcopeland9035 the cage is certified for 6.50 i was wondering what happens if you go faster than what your cage is certified for do you get fined . low 7s high 6s would still be pretty good for a new car until they get it dailed in

It's been a year since this video came out, so I don't know if you'll see this. Speaking about the "painting a car with a brush". . . It was several years ago on a visit with my oldest sister and her family we went to one of the local parks and had a picnic. In the parking lot of the massive park we were at, there happened to be a red car, that just looked a tad off. Not really thinking anything of it I went about business hanging out with family. A little later I noticed a guy out fussing around the car and when I looked a bit closer, I saw that he was doing "touchups". The off that I saw about the car, ended up being that it was painted with house paint. He was going around the car and freshening up the paint on the car, with a brush, and some house paint. 😳

The bearings need chamfered on a lathe. Very typical with "good" aftermarket crankshafts from larger radius's. That's why both bearings pictured were "shiney" on the edges. Best way is to make a fixture in the CNC for them.

If you can't get the 55 down to a 6.50 then you should take the engine to Steve Morris and see what he thinks he would change to squeeze every ounce of HP out of the BBC and still be in the safe and reliable zone and if you're having trouble reaching the HP numbers you're looking for then you should have him build you a similar engine that is in Tom Bailey's Sick 1.0 and also I do believe eventually Tom is going to put Steve's SMX in 1.0 as well similar to the set up he has in 2.0 but I think he is going to wait until he gets 2.0 back up and running before he puts an SMX in 1.0 so maybe your dad and Tom could make a deal where Dennis ends up with the engine out of 1.0 and then the Nova can have it's heartbeat back and then there will be an engine in everything so once the Chevy II comes out you guys can pick and choose which car goes to what event and since Badmaro is already a small tire car it would be sick if you built it for X275,N/T275 etc..... Some class that runs mid to low 4s on a 275

What is Jake's opinion about the guys who as soon as they go across the finish line and pull the chutes and as they fully open they let off the throttle and kill the car then throw the car in neutral and coast to the return lane and come to a stop and pack the chutes I guess my question would be is it easier or worse on a trans than just throwing it into neutral right after the finish line and then pulling the chutes letting the chutes do most of the work of the decell like he was saying could be catastrophic for a trans throwing it into neutral while the engine is just starting to decell after the run?
@NBSV1
@NBSV1 3 жыл бұрын
Probably depends on the trans. With an auto if you shut the engine off it also quits pumping oil in the trans. Which could be bad if it’s still spinning for the whole decel time. If it’s a manual it’s normally lubed by the gears spinning so the engine being off shouldn’t hurt it in the same way.
