Backbeat, forebeat, dissonance, diminished chords as melody or crunchy rhythm? Idk. I have found that diminished chords used in certain forms with other chords...seem to replicate a bit of the Primus style. They are like funky west texas blues or something.

Also, they have that bit of a Cali sound that the Red Hot Chili Peppers exploit harmonically, yet they lean dissonant. Especially the vocalist and Les Claypool.

Fmajor on a guitar + high end fretboard E minor diminished I think? If thise chords are played with individual notes and funk centeic rhythm...I definitely hear a Primus sound. Especially if my guitar is D standard instead of E standard. (Full step drop tuning)

Ok hear me out: before his forced retirement, Captain Pierce was one of the first responders on the scene of Jerry’s fatal drunk driving accident. One of the many things he taught young Les was never to drink and drive, because no matter how good you think you are, you aren’t that good. He told the story of a young race car driver, a literal race car driver, in graphic detail to prove his point to Les Claypool. Go out, have your fun, have a good time, but don’t fuck around. You gotta be careful out here, you can’t tempt fate because this is literally life and death shit. At least according to Captain Pierce. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
@jimbillyjenkims

See, in my headcanon, Sgt pierce was indirectly responsible for Jerry's death. It stuck in his craw that they made him retire at the age of 65, so he was out drinking his sorrows away. Next verse, who do we have but our boi Jerry again having to much to drink and wrapping his car around a telephone pole. Jerry was drinking with pierce the night of his death!

And I'll just respond now to people who may talk about the fact that Les play's bass (primarily at least, he's a beast on both guitars honestly). Man I used to freeskate for hours and hours on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 on PS1 back in the early 2000s listening to this song on repeat and just rocking out the whole time. I get nestalgic goosebumps everytime I hear it. I always loved these guys all growing up. My friends thought I was crazy and I never cared, they are just so fricken awesome.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater came out right as I was at the age where you "get into music", so to speak. So glad it introduced me to all these amazing bands.

I absolutely love that that bass line during the chorus sounds like a revving engine
