I served over a decade in the French army, none of us wore our uniforms outside the camps or facilities. Once your training is over, nobody really cares what you do in your free time. French people don't celebrate or worship warfare. None of the soldiers or lieutenants I know, would ever mention, let alone flaunt their uniforms or badges. The same goes for our police, society doesn't owe you more respect or free food for simply doing your job.
