"Defective Character" heads east from Galveston, Texas to fish for snapper, kingfish, and redfish. The live well gets full so we head back home short of our limit. Fishing report for Galveston, Texas. Best bait is live shrimp. Species caught red drum, redfish, sheepshead, red snapper, sand trout, dogfish, hardhead, and king mackeral (kingfish). Most tackle used is 7 ft medium heavy rods. 30-65 lb braid. Circle hooks with 100 lb mono crimped leader 1-3 ft. Water depth less than 50 ft. Location secret fishing hole very close to Bolivar Peninsula. Green water has moved in very close to shore. Seas 2-4 ft 18 mph east winds.

I grew up in Santa Fe & LaMarque and will also remember going out on my grandpa's boat early in the morning, heading for whatever spots we would fish at. Sometimes it was the oil platforms, other times, Red Fish Reef. I remember the salt air, the smell and the excitement! I live up in the hill country now, but will also have fond memories of my childhood on the coast. I'm very homesick!!

Beautiful guys, I see fillet knives at work, fish fry, sides, ice cold beer. You can't beat the Gulf, as I see it. Thanks for posting.

Texas Blackwater, I failed to comment about your fine catch of snapper , kingfish, red drum, and mangrove snapper, and a nice one too ,I might add, and a few gulf trout, You guys should be proud, bringing in a catch like that.It's good to see the old Gulf has replenished it's resources... Way to go, guys !!!

Texasblackwater, I have been pulled in once when both engines failed. But I have pulled numerous people in also. If someone is broke down always render aid, they might need to help you one day !!!

State waters less than 9 miles out. Snapper are smaller in state waters.

You should always shut off an engine on a small boat offshore. They have small fuel tanks already. Let's just burn a quarter of our fuel tank because we don't want to be stuck their.

they were within 9nm and the boat they were in has at least a 25 gallon tank. leaving the engine on wouldn't burn all the fuel. they were very close and they portable had over 1/2 tank once they got back. and you can use a lot more than just a quarter of the tank. one rule of boating is the 1/3 rule. 1/3 getting there. a 1/3 getting back and 1/3 in reserve.

If you are that afraid or your equitment, you don't need to go out in the gulf in the first place. Any Captain of his vessel should have mechanical knowledge of what to do in any situation. Most of my boats were twin engines, but I did take single engine boats in the gulf, and shut them off while fishing. If you don't know, don't go !!!
