I was just 9 yrs old when this song came out, and I think it's my very favorite live performance. Bobby Hatfield owns this song still. Everyone else who has covered it - including Elvis - has been a disappointment to me. It kind of figures that you remember the song and the voice, but not the movie it played on. It was Ghost with Patrick Swayze. Oh, and by the way, I loved your reaction 🙂

Dave O'Farrell, Bobby Hatfield was the fourth person to sing Unchained Melody. The version with the pink suit and red necktie was his live version on Andy Williams show. The first person that sang it was in prison. IT sounded a little different. Bobby Hatfield sang it better than anyone else. Elvis sang it later. It was good, but no comparison to Bobby Hatfield.

So, this song came out the year I was born! My husband and I shared our first dance to this song in 1989! We weren't married yet and, on the way to the event, we got into a huge fight. I thought we were over. However, once this song came on, I asked him to dance with me (my husband doesn't like to dance); we fell in love all over again! We recently celebrated our 30th anniversary of being together, in Hawaii. I played this song and we danced together. I am so blessed to have this man in my life! Great reaction to a beautiful song that has so much meaning to us!

I love The Righteous Brothers. I always loved how Bobby Hatfield could sing such high notes and Bill Medley could sing such low notes. Together they sounded amazing. Bill isn't on this song, obviously; but songs like You've Lost That Loving Feeling, Soul and Inspiration, You'll Never Walk Alone and others show how incredible both their voices are/were. Beautiful song. Bobby Hatfield died November 5, 2003, he was 63 years old. Another great loss to the music world. Thank you Lee and Faith.💜💚💝💖🌞🌞

Believe the "Ghost" version is out of the studio (from an album); this is a live TV audience performance. And, yes, this is the best rendition, for sure. Why not do the research for background material AFTER you get your reactions out and us through the performance? Love your enthusiasm! Enjoy the performance, absorb the lyrics' message, marvel at his talent. No not original; that's a 1955 prison movie performance. WOW! After my 2nd edit, you were reading my mind, Gal. Smart move to start over for the FULL EFFECT.

This song was written in 1955 for a movie called “Unchained”, hence the name. It’s been covered More than 670 times by various artists, but nobody sings it like Bobby. This was a live performance on the Andy Williams Show in 1965. He was extremely nervous because his mother was in the audience. The smile and bite of his bottom lip at the end tells you he knows he absolutely nailed it.

The quintessential love song. Covered by over 600 artists but NO ONE can do it like Bobby Hatfield who sadly left up in 2003. Him along with Bill Medley made the Righteous Brothers the greatest duo of all time. If you want to hear more of them try the song that was the most played song of the 20th Century and that is You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, Soul and Inspiration, Rock and Roll Heaven, Ebb Tide and that’s with Bobby on the solo again. The music today can’t compare to this music. How many songs of today will you remember in 55 years from now. Well thanks for playing that beautiful masterpiece.

They got the name The Righteous Brothers when they were playing a club near El Toro Marine Base in California. An African-American Marine would yell, "That was righteous, brothers!" after they would finish a song. After the show he walked up to them and said, "Hey righteous brothers! How you doin'?" So the name was born.

This is not the original version of the song. There were FOUR different versions of Unchained Melody on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1955, ten years before Bobby Hatfield recorded this cover. It was originally written for a movie called Unchained. But the biggest hit version of the song of the four that charted in 1955 was probably the one by Al Hibbler, which is nowhere near as good as the one by the Righteous Brothers. Bobby Hatfield, who solo'd on this song, was one half of the Righteous Brothers. The other half was (and is) Bill Medley, who still performs in Las Vegas today, but with a new Righteous Brothers partner since Bobby Hatfield, sadly, passed away in the early 2000s. At each show, Bill Medly pays tribute to Bobby Hatfield. As high pitched as Bobby Hatfield's voice was, Bill Medley's was (and is) just as low. Check 'em out. There's a reason why some of the brothas who heard them perform said they sounded "righteous," which is where the name came from. And it gave birth to the term "blue-eyed soul." "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" was their first giant hit, which turned out to be the most played single on American radio in the 20th century. Another awesome hit was "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration." Another of my favorites (that nobody has done a reaction video to) is "Just Once In My Life." Bobby Hatfield did another solo titled "Ebb Tide," which was just as awesome as Unchained Melody. The duo sort of disappeared off the radar after about '66, but then re-appeared with a big hit in the mid '70s called "Rock and Roll Heaven," a tribute to so many of the rock 'n rollers who died prematurely at the peak of their careers.

Yes, it was a kinder, gentler time. There were the "unwholesome" people or things, but it was frowned on then. I guess somewhere we decided that wasn't "cool" so we became rougher and certainly less wholesome until it lead us to now ... A shame, I think.

The Late Bobby Hatfield will always own this song, I dont think any former &/or current pop and an opera singer (even though it was sung by Elvis, and many others and the opera singer in the original film) even he couldn't match Bobby Hatfield's voice which has power but it could not match Bobby's lightness and power of his voice (not sure but I believe it is 3 octaves). This song requires a powerful BUT sweetness and lightness which honestly I havent heard other singers produce especially at the end of this song on this LIVE T.V. production which is not on the studio version - mores the pity. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Please react to You've Lost That Loving Feeling; it features both "brothers" and was in the movie Top Gun. It was also the most played song on American radio and television in the 20th century with over 8 million air-plays by 1999 - more than any Motown hit, more than any song by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, etc. Also check out (You're My) Soul and Inspiration, which spent 3 straight weeks at #1 in 1966.

Unchained Melody was written for the movie 'Unchained' (1955). The movie is based on a book titled 'Prisoners Are People' by Kenyon J. Scudder. The movie takes place in a medium security prison in Chino California where the prisoners are not chained, and the guards are unarmed. Hence the movies name 'Unchained' and the title song and soundtrack 'Unchained Melody.' The song was composed by Alex North (1910-1991) and the lyrics by Hy Zaret (1907-2007). The song was first sung by African American Opera Singer, Broadway and Film Actor, and Howard University professor Todd Duncan for the 1955 prison film. He also acted in the movie, and sings the signature song of the movie 'Unchained Melody.' Since 1955 this beloved ballad has been sung by every major recording artist in the world. Making it one of the most recorded songs in the history of music. In 1965 on the Andy Willi8ams show. Bobby Hatfield of the 'Righteous Brothers' gave one of the greatest live television performances in the history of television. His version has since then become the quintessential version of them all. It is the version every recording artist has used, and uses today. In 1991 the move 'Ghost' starring Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, and Whoopie Go0ldberg who won an Oscar for her performance. Brought to a new audience the beloved song everyone has been reacting too lately. It was the Bobby Hatfield version they used for the blockbuster movie. The rest as they say is history.

The Righteous Brothers were a duo, but occasionally they would sing solo. They were prime examples of what we call Blue Eyed Soul. Bill Medley brings the deeper baritone sound while Bobby Hatfield's higher voice perfectly compliments Bill's. "You've lost that loving feeling" is a great example of their voices blended together. It holds the title of the most requested song of the 20th century. I was born two years after this performance, but I always heard it being played at home & on the radio. It's been one of my all time favorite songs since I was a young kid. It is considered to be one of the greatest love songs ever composed. It has been covered many times over by many great artists but Bobby Hatfield's version is probably the most well known & beloved the world over. It was used as the main love theme for the movie GHOST starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze, & Whoopi Goldberg (she won the Academy Award for best supporting actress that year). This was definitely Bobby's song as no other can match his performance - so silky smooth & melodic, such a one of a kind ethereal voice that can make anyone swoon - LOL. Keep in mind also that he did this in front of a live audience, on live nationwide TV back in 1965, years before any computer aided autotune or post production editing. *side note - speaking of vocal talent... Please check out Sir Tom Jones (aka The Voice). He was dubbed with that moniker decades before the competition-reality TV show of the same name. Tom is held in such high regard not only by fans, but also his peers in the music industry. Some of Tom's big hits that other KZfaqrs are reacting to lately are: Delilah, I'll never fall in love again, Green green grass of home, It's not unusual, She's a lady... oh, and he did a cover of KISS (by Prince) with the band, Art of Noise, back in 1988. He's still singing strong & touring at 80 years old (his b-day is tomorrow June 7th).

Bill Medley was the second half of their duo. Bobby Hatfield sang Unchained Melody by himself. They were blue-eyed soul singers from Southern California. When a black DJ in Chicago played their records he had no idea they were white. He’d exclaim “That’s Righteous, Brother!” After their records played. Hence, the name stuck. But it was awhile before people found out they were white, and some held it against them for awhile, but their songs won the people over.

You probably remember this song from the movie "Ghost' but the original really was from the movie 'Unchained,' 1955, hence "Unchained Melody." The Righteous Bros, (in this case, Bobby Hatfield,) did a cover version in the mid-sixties. It became more popular than the earlier versions. 'You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling' was the Righteous Bros. best song, react to that too.

This is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955)[1], hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack.[2] It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers.[3] According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages.[4] In 1955, three versions of the song (by Les Baxter, Al Hibbler, and Roy Hamilton) charted in the Billboard Top 10 in the United States,[5] and four versions (by Al Hibbler, Les Baxter, Jimmy Young, and Liberace) appeared in the Top 20 in the United Kingdom simultaneously, an unbeaten record for any song.[6][7] The song continued to chart in the 21st century, and it was the only song to reach number one with four different recordings in the UK until it was joined by Band Aid 30's "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in 2014.[8][9]

Some call her the Mariah Carey of the Philippines. Her vocals are freaking amazing! Rise Up has been taken down several times bcuz it gets more views and likes than the original. U will fall in love with her vocals. I guarantee it.

This was a cover as well as the many other artist that did the song. It was a song in a 1955 movie titled Unchained Melody. Done many time over the years, but this artist is attributed to have owned the song . The movie you might have heard it in is " Ghost " with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze?

This live version is so much better than th record. The Righteous Brothers are a duo, but Bobby Hatfield recorded this song separately for a movie called Unchained Melody, which was a total flop, but the song was a hit & still works today.

When I was in high school back in the early 60s, we once had a girl who started putting on weight, like a pot belly. Then, she disappeared and 5 months later showed up again with a brand new baby brother. So, things did sometimes happen, even then.

I was raised on Let It To Beaver and all those shows. They were so awesome to grow up to. The world was a difference place. It was as innocent. Just remember, tv shows don't produce an environment but it reflects the current environment.

This is not the original version. It was written for the movie "Unchained" in 1954 or 5. It's been recorded hundreds of times. Bobby Hatfield owns this song. He sang this in 1965. When the movie "Ghost" came out years later he re-recorded it & the song again went to #1. The only song to have done this. Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley (The Righteous Brothers) have wonderful songs out. They are referred to as "blue-eyed soul" singers. Bobby is 25 in this live performance on the Andy Williams Show. He passed in 2003. Bill is 81 and still sings. ☑️ out "Soul & Inspiration" and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling." 🎧 You'll be re- amazed. 🤗

There were others that did a remake but No One Compared to Bobby Hatfields version! They had it in the movie Ghost! There are other movies as well. Bobby made it look so easy! The control he had and the range..was incredible! He was phenomenal! Definitely a panty dropper! All he had to do was start singing! lol.

I enjoyed your reactions even before you turned it back to the beginning and listening to your thoughts was interesting, its a great song with a great singer...being from the 50's myself there was an innocense at least in middle America(I'm Canadian) we didn't have the World Wide Net which has exposed people to a broad spectrum of the world, where all we had was tv/radio and there was a certain amount of censorship to keep the news clean,we associated with our neighbors because they lived there for life,we sat on our front porches, anyhow try some Shirley Bassey anything live Goldfinger,Diamonds Are Forever, more Righteous Brothers.

This song is from the 1955 movie "Unchained Melody". It's about a black man in prison. The only reason his soul is not crushed is the memory of love. The melody is by Alex North the dean of Hollywood film composer "Cleopatra" "Streetcar named Desire".Also sung by Elvis. You can compare.

I sang this to my wife at our wedding in 1983. She, however she said I murdered it. I'm guessing it's not a song for a baritone, she told me I was of better sticking to my drumming. I thought it was an appropriate song as I was in the Royal Marine Commandos, I had returned from the war for the Falkland Islands when I proposed, and now was shipping out to Sierra Leone two days later, so much for my attempt at being romantic. On the upside she liked me in my Dress Uniform, and having my comrades forming the sword tunnel helped. I must have done something write because we're still together. With 4 children and 7 grandchildren, we got busy on baby's when I was home. I served my Queen and Country for 34 years as a Royal Marine Commandos and Specialist Forces, and then 2 years in hospital, and she stuck by me even though I'm wheelchair bound now. We do actually have a song by Queen called "Your Me Best Friend", a very apt song as she has been my best friend since we were 16.

It is not the original version on the song. This video was made in 1965 on the Andy Williams Show. It was originally the theme song for the movie "Unchained" from 1955. I saw the movie! A version on the song was sung in the movie. It was a prison movie and the prisoner was wrestling with whether to escape or serve his time. It has been covered by more than 720. This version by Bobby Hatfield was a background song in the movie Ghost. Bobby Hatfield owned this song.

Bobby Hatfield definitely had it going on. Keep in mind he is 25 years old in this video. Great poise for such a young man. To be able to stand there and deliver a performance at this level is not easy for anyone! The song was written in 1955 by Alex North who went on to great film scoring fame. He did the original score for "2001: A Space Odyssey" until Kubrick decided to go in another direction. There are videos of the entire movie with his original score. Stunning.

Many people have done this song, Bobby Hatfield is the gold standard of this song. Both Righteous Brothers have done solos and supposedly Bobby won a coin toss to sing this song. This is only a part of the video, there's more and you'll see both Righteous Brothers in the full version.

One of their other monster hits is called "You've Lost That Loving Feeling." A modern cover should be called "WE'VE Lost That Loving Feeling." I was born in 1956, and the social mood absolutely has changed. From relatively positive to oppressively negative.
