I used to work in alterations and it's never best to wear the item inside out for marking. Reason being, most body shapes are slightly asymetrical, especially in the case of someone having scoliosis. Wear the item right side out, mark, and transfer marks to the inside of the garment. Thank you for the video and demonstration 😊

Professional sewing for correct fit requires one inch below armscye. The "alteration" reduced the gaping; however, it brought the side seam all the way under her arm. The solution to the problem would be leaving at least 1" under the arm for mobility of the arms, and adding bust darts to adjust the gaping. This would be a lot more practical for comfort. Just my opinion, of course!

Yes! I just shortened a bunch of tank top straps because there was gaping in the chest. Now the arm holes are higher, like right under my armpit, which I don't like at all. Can you give step by step instructions on how to sew bust darts?

My ribbing doesn't match up. 1/2 inch wider at back. What do I do?

Hi Joyce, If it doesn't match up just trim it so that it does match up to the front. The back pieces are usually bigger than the front so if you can't stretch the fabric enough to match it up just trim it and finish the cut edge to make it clean. Hope this helps!

You can do the same thing, you will just end up with a seam there.

You could either add fabric at the top of the strap where the seam is (probably the easiest way), or you could cut down into the body of the tank top right at the bottom of the arm hole and just fix the trim all the way around to match the rest of the shirt.

Dawn Frank Look at the way the side seam now comes up under the young woman's armpit. Someone here seems to think the "before" was wrong fit because bra showed. The fit was incorrect because darts needed to remove gaping, sagging fabric! The "fix" done here though leaves no room for the woman to move her arms. Therefore, the alteration was a solution of sorts; just not the professional and correct one, unfortunately.

@@TheJudeJane so what is the solution because before watching this video I tried this on my favorite tank top and I ruined it trying to get the seem back out because the arm holes were now too small. I couldn't figure how to adjust the neck smaller and leave the arms the same. May not be a way but if there is I'd like to know.
