If anyone else is curious (like I was) I looked up what the speed limit for crews doing recce was. "The maximum speed allowed during Reconnaissance is 80kmh on special stages unless a lower speed limit is indicated by road signs or by written instructions in the roadbook" At all other times "Competitors must fully respect the Polish Traffic Law regulations including use seatbelts and speed limits" Which are 50kmh in build up areas, and 90kmph outside of build up areas.

Not to be funny but I've seen some "recce" runs where they were nowhere near 49kmh (30mph). It would be interesting to know if they were "well under" the speed limit, under the recce limit and for how long before impact. On the other hand there are car crashes all the time where speed isn't a factor so it could just as easily be someone pulling out without looking.

One of base with Ratonik 19 " Rescuer 19 is not so far away from my house. To organise rally you need secure helicopters ,ambulances, fire trucks in places from where help can arrive in minutes. That is all writen in rulles to Organise WRC, ERC and National rally event. its better to blow on cold than got hurt as we say in Poland.

No idea what is the legal speed limit on these roads in Poland but yes I am willing to bet both were driving too fast for this road. Maybe some idiots who drive with no visibility on open road will learn from this. Even a world rally champion is not quick enough to react to this kind of situation. So please if you are not 100% certain of what is coming in front of you keep some margin.

Can someone please explain why 2 way traffic is allowed durig recces where the recce crews are clearly doing more than the official speed limit (even if they're within FIA limits)?? Even one way traffic would be dangerous, but allowing 2 way traffic is utterly bonkers. I guess FIA wants to kill WRC quite literally with all the drivers included. It is moronic. Glad to hear no serious injuries this time and hope to see them back soon. But I don't think the next recce accident will be as fortunate, whoever the victim.

Contract was signed only on this year! There is no many countries and sponsors who want to pay 7 milions of Euro to organise rally.. it cost huge monay to pay for FIA and do organisation stuff..and there is no money return to the economy. and local buisness. Poland is in top 14 most visted countries. regular tourist..about 50-60 milions per year will leave more money than rally fans without souch costs. now you can GTFO

Well their GPS data isn't clear with the statement of the victims which were a couple over their 60s so the Ford driver stated already that the Toyota driver was speeding too much and for avoiding collision pushed to the left. Please keep in mind that 3 years ago Ogier had an accident on the public road in Croatia as well nearly causing in danger pedestrians. Getting back to the core the old driver from Ford stated that this road was open to the public and there it was not possible to drive fast because some parts of the road were under reconstruction locally. Toyota can lie to the media if they want but if you paid enough attention to the pictures and the victim statements then everything that Toyota says is a big lie without showing the data.
