My dad was a CNC grinder for the past 45 years. He learnt grinding the old school way. Since Rolls Royce made those huge redundancies this year his work place lost out on a huge contract and they had to lay him off. The past decade the UK is drying up and hes struggling to find something similar. He hasn't been the same since losing his job. Such a shame as this looks so satisfying too and he always talked about his job not that I understood what the feck he was on about! Hoping the industry claws it's way back from these dark days

Geoff Crumblin still working at 76? There's no way I'll be still working at that age, especially when I take into account that no male relative in my family has lived past 75 years of age. I guess we don't last long where I'm from 😥

The industry is fine, the problem is that retraining a lot of the older operators is challenging and the industry is moving towards more and more design side cad/cam knowledge. Automated production is growing, it's not just CNC but it's automation end to end. If he's looking to find work, his best bet is if he is a quality skilled programmer/operator, get in there learn cad/cam and repurpose that knowledge. I know as i am going through the same thing with the automotive industry, 30 yrs and 20 as a Master automotive technician, I am moving to automated manufacturing here at home. Bought multiple machines, starting a home based business. the customer base is global and if you buy and refurbish older machines, you can get brutally competitive on quotes and make a ton of money and stay as busy as you want. Look up the Google channel, titans of CNC, they have incredible online courseware !!!

This video does show some very incredible machines!!! To think how far this trade has come in the past 150, to maybe almost 200 years is very incredible. All that work would have either been done by hand, or with a simple machine powered by "pumping a pedal". Mills and lathes use to only be able to use one tool at a time. Now you have complex machines that incorporate both a mill and lathe into one machine, with multiple cutting tools...that can make multiple passes. Wow!!! Just wow!!!

You know I used to be pretty good with a totally manual lathe turned out a lot of good needed projects on the farm and they worked as good or better than the factory units. In watching this my only question where the hell have I been over the last 25 years? There is stuff going on that I never even imagined its nothing but incredible!!!
@ericwilliams7374

Just think of the advancements that will take place in another 25 years from now!!! Think of the advancements that have taken place since the turn of last century (1900)!!! Humans are capable of such wonders, sadly, we all can't get along. Think of how much further we could probably be, if the Human race was able to get along with one another.
@karlk6860
@karlk6860 3 жыл бұрын
@@ericwilliams7374 Eric I guarantee your right on the next 25 years but the part that so weird to me is that I cannot even comprehend or imagine what we can do to make it even better than what I see in these vids! I have obviously been so out of touch with for far to long and because of this lack of knowledge on this part of metal work today I dont even have ideas on how to make it better, THAT is rather sad to say! As far as the human factor goes? After the last couple years I have almost given up hope on THAT ever changing, the US cannot even get our own country to work together within itself! Very sad state of affairs it seems everywhere right now!
