Ricky used to be overweight too. He jokes more about weight since he did that. That’s a note, not a complaint. Eddie Izzard is a very funny British comedian. Eddie’s best standup are on the specials Glorious and Dress to Kill. There are multiple bits of these performances on KZfaq.

Deadnaming is a dumb concept. You can't undo history, not even your own. Trans people need to accept their entire personal history as much as WE need to accept them as they are. That we have deadnaming now is downright dishonest and counterproductive. Its not a secret nor should it be! Its as much a part of their lives as their current one and pretending it didn't ever happen is the same as acknowledging and validating the discrimination bigots inflicted on them and all downplaying the suffering they endured growing up and transitioning.

I’ve NEVER heard of deadnaming??? 😮 I thought it must be memorial to dead celebrities. Very educational! Actually the Bruce Jenner/Caitlin Jenner is a bit too much- mind you I’ve never heard of her/him???? Is he Kim Kardashian’s dad? Don’t watch them but unfortunately they are thrust upon us😢

According to some transgender friends that I have, the main issue "dead-naming" refers to is using a transperson's "old" name when you are talking about them in the present tense as if it was still their legal name, that is rather disrespectful and kinda dismisses the validity of the transition; but, if you are talking about the same transperson but referring to something they did before their transition and you use the name they used at that time then there is no problem. That is what makes Ricky's "response" joke from his special so damn funny. He adapted his joke so it did not "deadname" Caitlyn while mocking the controversy, the punchline of the newer version was even funnier! To me, that is a sign of a great comedian! Ricky used the controversy over a funny quip at an awards show and used it to make a bigger and funnier joke.

@@bkdmode Would it apply to people talking about it in honest error? For example someone who has known them from many years might say the old name by force of habit without malice. I think that is probably the main problem with the concept, you run the risk of lumping honest mistakes with people who actually do it with malice. I just think that people should react to intent rather than honest mistake. For that, concepts like deadnaming are not necessary. It's like me legally changing my name for whatever reason. If someone calls me by the old reaction would be depending on whether there is malice involved. After all that would have been my former name. I'm still the same person (Unless we were talking about something critical like new identity under witness protection)

@@alexisrivera200xable I think an honest mistake is an honest mistake - but that shouldn't be abused either - and you know there are people out there that will. It's kind of like the people who constantly go into discussion about a trans person and "corrects" a person by writing "*he" or "*she" in the comments because the previous comment referred to the person by their current gender identification. It is done with intent to not recognize their transition and with malice. It is clearly done to show a lack of acceptance of this group of people.

Also - Eddie Izzard is fantastic! They’re more of a story-telling comedian. Any of their gigs from the 90s are hilarious. Maybe check out Eddie Izzard “Encore on computers” sketch from Glorious (the name of that tour). It’s about computers/ technology (😆) & still as funny today as back then 😂 There’s a 7min sketch on KZfaq. Eddie was a transvestite, choosing to wear skirts & makeup sometimes, but also choosing to dress like a typical “male” other times, depending on how they felt. They’ve recently (just in the last few months) said they’d like to referred to as “she” and be called Suzy. I don’t mind what they look like or want to be called, they’ve been an extremely intelligent & talented comedian for 30+ yrs - even doing their entire gigs in different languages around Europe. They’ve had some incredible personal achievements in their life too, running repeated marathons day after day, breaking records. Cliff - if you do watch that computer sketch, or others that have been suggested, and you find it funny, I can write a list as long as my arm of other sketches from their gigs to watch too!

Eddie Izzard is a British comedian who used to dress up in drag for decades but I'm pretty sure he's trans now. One thing he did witch was cool was he ran 40 marathons around the UK in 44 days as a middle aged person who wasn't a runner and he raised a lot for charity during it.
