Sauger fishing on the Ohio river in late December and early January, this is the OH rivers most prized winter fish and I teach you how I catch them from the bank with jig heads and soft plastics.

Sometimes I watch Jean the fishing machine or mean Jean the fishing machine is one of those fishing programs that is always up to date on any season of the year what's bitting and baits used . You caught more sager fish in one show than I ever saw him catch that were legal but he is the croppy master he catches every time he goes . Like on your channel...

Richard gene is one of my favorite channels thanks for watching and I’m glad to put fish on video for you guys

There's about a tenth of sauger down in Richard's part of the country than they are where this was filmed.

@person390 I to live and fish on Tn River as Richard does and our Sauger population has been on a decline for 10 yrs or better. With that said TWRA has been stocking them for some time now and I think they may be getting better. But don't let the lack of em fool ya as to him catching em cuz he sure can. But if you or I were able to fish everyday we could just the same right lol. And that's what it takes is time on the water!!1

I've found the same success with similar colors. Green pumpkin on top, white on bottom. Other colors without any dark color still get bit but don't hook up as much.
@RiverBloodfishing8 ай бұрын
i seen green pumpkin getting smoked latley and the blacks doing very well as it gets darker most peoople think they need brite colors but i prefer the darker natural stuff

Thats a fun spot to fish. I would be cautious when measuring fish that are close to the minimum size. You want to measure these fish left to right on their side not snout to tail.

LEARN SOMETHING? Hec Ya! Thank You, very much for the 'teaching' format. And, I like your laid-back relaxing attitude. (5050 DRIVES ME NUTS!!! ;>) When watching someone casting the O river, I'm always wondering if their hitting bottom or not,,,, before you start to slowly crank it in. 3 sec drop, 5 sec? Hop & stop back, or slow drag across bottom? I've had nice warmer days in Feb where the saugers wouldn't touch a jig & twister, & or fathead, unless we laid the jig down on the bottom & moved it only 2" at a time! If anything felt like a snag, set the hook! Those saugers just love to lay there,,,, specially at the down river side of a depression. Look for a 2' hole in a feeder creek. They will be stacked on the down river end of that hole. You'll feel 'clean' rocks. The bottom of that hole will be leaves & muck. Man,,, I'd love to be with you while your catching them, slow casting like that, I'd be using a slip-egg sinker & 8"-12" leader with fatheads. I like to put a glow-in-the-dark in-line float in front of the hook, keeps it off the bottom. S L O W drag it in. Especially at night. lol,,, I'm always looking for more of your O River videos,,, wish you made one every week! THANKS Again.

I like to let it hit the bottom and slow retrieve sometimes I like to drag the jigs across the bottom especially with shad or minnows or occasionally I do a double jig rig and let one drag the bottom and leave one higher in the water column and everything you said sounds amazing need to try some different stuff and I really appreciate you watching and sending quality comments you’re a real fisherman

The biggest problem I have with fishing the Ohio River is there is not a lot of parking along the river in Cincinnati on the Ohio side. On another note a five gallon bucket with holes in it makes a good fish basket. Just make sure you have a lid to keep them from jumping out. Plus you can stack them.

Excellent video. Is this near the Emsworth Lock and Dam? Moving to Ben Avon later this year and looking forward to some river fishing.

Great video. Im curious why you use a 1/2 oz jighead and not 3/8 oz or even 1/4. Current does not look too strong.. I fish a river similar to yours and find a 3/8 easier, especially preventing snags. Thanks .
@RiverBloodfishing8 ай бұрын
I was using 3/8 the current was much stronger than it looks on video

I was there yesterday. It was cold, windy and the water was raging especially up by the dam. The current is ripping although it may not look like it! 😎

@@michealcook3571 I keep hearing the Ky side is good near the creek mouth there is also another creek mouth on Indiana side about a mile down by the bridge and it usually produces a couple but mostly crappie and white bass I may have to get back down there and try again see if those spots work
@michealcook35717 ай бұрын
I am cruising the Indiana side right now. I'm trying to just find some life or some shad anywhere. The struggle is real! Lol

Oh Ya,,, one more thing. Please post a link to your drone? I'd like to check it out,,, cost, & how much it can carry? (shark fishing the OBX ;>)
@RiverBloodfishing6 ай бұрын
If I could recommend a drone for fishing I would get the swell pro fishing drone but they are expensive so on The cheaper side the DJI phantom 3 pro or a phantom 4 would be the next best option for carrying weight and they have a better camera and signal but you have to add a mechanism to the bottom to hold and drop the line I actually sold mine and bought a smaller mavic mini 2 and it doesn’t have to be registered due to weight but can’t carry anything
@jdoboy68356 ай бұрын
@@RiverBloodfishing THANKS,,, I will check them out. Do you know,,, what's needed for registration? federal stuff or State?

LOL,, I always think the same thing!! I crack up when I see that TAPE coming out. ;>) Measure you bucket! Most are around 14" tall,,, & just under 12" wide. I always use a 6 or 7gal bucket,,, it's taller. so you can mark it up to 16". I also put tape, or marks between my guides on my poles. You could have 4-5 different 'rulers' right at hand,,,, BEFORE you even take out the lure. Up Erie,,, there's so many dinks, we use a 15" long piece of 2.5"- 3" ID PVC pipe,,, cap one end & pop rivet on a small handle. Drop in your eye, nose down. Still See some tail, it's a keeper! Super fast & easy.
