Now you're talking! I was a huge Al Green fan back in the day and still listen to this same album regularly. There is not a bad song on this album. The music on this album just makes you feel good and mellow. This is his prime. Horns are smooth and subtle. His voice oozes soul. This is REAL music. Do "Let's Get Married" "Tired of Being Alone" and "Let's Stay Together" from this album. PLEASE!

OMG yes! A 70s childhood..great memories! I remember the grown folks would be in the front room playing records on the record player, drinking cocktails and smoking cigarettes(I mean, it was the 70s). And the kids would be in a back room watching tv and playing games, and sometimes we’d sneak out into the hallway to listen to the music and laughter. Good times!🥰
@seanswinton6242
@seanswinton6242 8 ай бұрын
@Bronwyn-cf3um Wow, did we all have identical childhoods? You painted the picture exactly. For me, it would be aunts, uncles, and my cousins. We would be watching TV or listening to our own music while playing boardgames. I had a collection of other stuff from prior Christmases like a pinball machine, a 3 in 1 pool table, air hockey, and ping-pong table. I look back at those times with great joy and a bit of melancholy because the adults are all gone even many of my cousins. I, myself, had come close calls due to epilepsy and kidney failure. I thank my parents, aunts, and uncles, for the wisdom they gave me. The music and Good Times* then were truly fun, and the best! *Had to give a salute to the CHIC song and to the TV show that gave the world Thelma Evans aka Bernadetts Stanis my first crush!😂

In our tradition , especially in the JAZZ Genre, the voice in and of itself is an instrument. That being said, David Ruffin 's ability to convey the emotions of any song makes him top tear. That's why he's near of the top of my list. Marvin Gaye and Prince are next on my list.

I love this one! I remember watching my parents and other relatives tear up the floor on this one, and when I was older and understood the lyrics, I felt the song even more and tore up the floor, too. 😊 One night, I was at the club with friends and a man in his early 70s asked me to dance to this song. He was a little more than forty years older than me, but he showed out. I danced with him a lot that night as he put the guys in their 30s to shame. 😄 Next by Al... "For the Good Times". My boyfriend used to play that one a lot. Slow dancing to it on repeat made for many romantic evenings.😊

That hard driving rhythm is courtesy of the Hi Rhythm section (as in Hi Records, the label for which it was recorded) - Mabon “Teenie” Hodges on guitar, his brothers Charles on organ and Leroy on bass, and Howard Grimes and Al Jackson, Jr. on drums. Horns by Wayne Jackson, of the Memphis Horns, on trumpet and Jack Hale on trombone. The song was written by Al Green and Teenie Hodges. Who co-wrote several of Al’s hits, including Take Me to the River. Another great Hi Records song featuring the Hi Rhythm section you don’t want to miss is Ann Peebles “I Can’t Stand the Rain” - a great Friday choice!

Al Green is the embodiment of soul. You have to hit Let’s Stay Together, his best. Also Sha-La-La-La Makes Me Happy, and many others like Call Me.

Al Green came from the church. He started singing in this era and the career blew up. He lives out this song and slipped up and got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. One chest full of hot grits and he became the Rev. Al Green but he still sings these songs because they are about love. My favorite is "Let's Get Married Today"

Amber and Jay, my Dad Charles Hodges(organ), Uncle Teenie Hodges(guitar) and Uncle Leroy "Flick" Hodges were his musicians on this song and all others from 69-76 along with Howard Grimes(drums) and Archie Turner(keys) and of course those horns. Check out Simply Beautiful. That Hi Sound is magical. Glad y'all enjoyed this. It's my family's legacy.

There is one AL Green. You know his music the minute it starts. He was honored at the Kennedy Center. Good show. He only plays at church for God. He has so many good songs !

Al Green's best recordings were arranged and produced by Willie Mitchell -- perhaps the most gifted arranger/producer Memphis ever saw.

Thank you. Please check out more of Al Green’s catalog. Also there’s a group called “Switch - song title: I call your name.” And a group called “Enchantment - song title: Gloria” both groups have amazing falsetto leads!

Amber is such a huge fan of BRASS. Some how we got to get her to listen to what most people say was the greatest SAX solo ever recorded. Title song of the 1973 Billboards Album of the Year "THE WORLD IS A GHETTO" by War.

I regularly put on Al Greens Greatest Hits Album and let it play through. It's one of my all time favorite albums. My guess is that your Parents and Grandparents were digging on this album too, back in 1975. My High School Music Teacher had played on some of Al Greens recordings over the years, and he turned me on to this album. Next you should react to "I Can't Get Next To You" which is a funky cover of the Temptations hit, then "Tired of Being Alone", "Here I Am". I promise you won't be disappointed.

A jam for the ages. When it first came out, sophisticated folk turned up their noses. But real music lover adored the track.

Al Green, Soul/R&B living legend!....By the way, in case you didn't know, Al Green actually DOES have of version of "A Change Is Gonna Come", and the version I heard was pretty powerful!......Good reaction!

Al sort of stopped performing while doing his Preaching, then started doing some small shows and what. I used to work with a fellow who drummed for AL when he did gigs down around NOLA up into Southern Mississippi. He had a calendar with gigs listed so if someone forgot they could check to see if Milton had to go drum for AL. Al posted a pic on Twitter some time back, someone pasted that pic of him on the album, over the W at Walgreen's making it an algreen's and it tickled him. "Who did this?🤣🤣"

A wonderful singer who is seldom mentioned that I think you guys would really like is Jerry Butler. He was one of my parents' favorite old-school singers. They started me listening to him around 4 years old. That was the same time I began listening to Al Green, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson....all the greats of the 50's and 60's. He has such a smooth, soulful voice, very easy to listen to and enjoy. His voice was so smooth, his nickname was the "Iceman" . Please first listen to: 1. "For Your Precious Love" by Jerry Butler and The Impressions/1958 2. "Hey, Western Union Man" by Jerry Butler/1968
