Yes, Al changed this Gibbs song a bit from the original version. But you have to dig deeper with Al Green: “Let’s Stay Together,” “Love and Happiness,” “I’m Still in Love with You,” “You Ought to Be With Me,” “I’m So Tired of Being Alone,” etc. Thanks ✨🤪

And suggesting more great soulful vocals: TEDDY PENDERGRASS (solo or with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes) - “WAKE UP EVERYBODY.” - a classic vocally with important lyrics! Thanks ✨🤪

Quick trivia on this song. The song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb, and it was their song in 1971 first. That’s why I said the other day you hadn’t heard their old stuff yet. And they’ve got stuff much older.

I prefer the musical arrangement and the soul vocal of the AL Greene version more. I think the Soul vocal arrangement carries more emotional impact then the BeeGees collective soft high tone. Even when pronouncing fractions of the lyric words Al muddles/turns the phrasing to a soul sound like when he pronounces it as "what i'm tryin to say is", that is masterful. When you add the background horns on top of his performance it makes a deeper emotional vibe than the BeeGees muster.

When I lost her a few years back I saw he was on tour and sold a bunch of my stuff so I could go FRONT ROW at the Chicago theatre! I even caught one of the roses he threw to the audience and have it in a frame now. Let me tell you this man was 72 or 73 when I saw him and he still absolutely killed it. Night of a lifetime. When he hits that note though I love your reaction!!! And look how he STEPS BACKWARDS. He makes love to that mic haha this performance. Listen to the note at the end of his version of "Can't Get Next to You". Mariah who? My husband calls it "the mosquito". The man has a range and voice like none other. Being a cover doesn't mean it isn't awesome. I've heard plenty of covers of different songs. Some covers are different from the originals but they are still good. I've noticed over the years, whether it's hearing a song for the first time or eating a certain food for the first time, people tend to like the first one better and compare everything else to it. Example: I heard a cover of Hey Jude before I knew it was a Beatles song. I like the cover better.

@@harr77 my point is that he loved the song (Al's version) and he loves Barry but he had no idea his guy Barry wrote it and performed it first. He's going to be surprised! My comment takes nothing away from Al's version.

This is a Bee Gees original. I don't think you've reacted to that one, seems like the next logical thing to do.

'Look What You Done For Me' is one of Al Green's best songs, IMHO. That voice, the beat, the horns, and the organ make this an Al Green song that'll send shivers down your spine. 🌞

Great reaction to the incomparable Al Green! And Jay, Mama's fixin' to take you to school! And she's right, I didn't think you'd be into Al. I have some of his albums from the 70's and my wife and I still play them. Can't wait to see you react to more of Al Green!

I’m 56 now but when I was 12 my best friend who was 14 called me up to come over a listen to an 8 track of al greens greatist hits. We started listening to it at 4 pm and didn’t stop until the next morning. His passion for sing his songs is so deep it’s mezmorizing.
