first game was just a player that may know opening principles but has 0 idea on why they are the way they are and definitly never looked into any form of opening lines.
@dsrguru
@dsrguru 19 күн бұрын
@@mauer1I think it's more a case of them not knowing opening principles. One of the basic principles is that you can't let your opponent take the whole center unless you have a way to make it a target a la the Grunfeld or King's Indian. Even if they had never seen something like the Ponziani or the Alapin, a principled player would know they need to put pressure on e4 to prevent d4.

The amazing thing about the last game is how Eric is able to keep calm under a very stressful situation. Think about it from Eric's point of view. He is an international master, playing a 1700 rated player, and he is on 130+ unbeaten run playing with black down on time and realizing he is cooked. Talk about fear of embarrassment losing to a less rated player, or the fear of ending a winning streak, or the mental block that comes to us when we realize there is not enough time left in the game and we are way behind on the clock. Yet, he was calm throughout the last 90 seconds and able to focus and play all the right moves and win. Great lesson of controlling emotions and keeping your focus and of course a great lesson of never giving up.
@Puschit1
@Puschit1 20 күн бұрын
Yeah but Eric is ALWAYS calm! Even when he finds a way to sacrifice his queen for the win he barely smiles. Of course he might be cooking underneath, who knows. What I am trying to say: I have never seen Eric Rosen being not calm. That's not just his default state, he probably is incapable of being angry, frustrated or nervous :)

What I learn most from Eric isn't even the chess itself, it's the "how to think" and how to control your emotions and stay objective during the game. The way he explains the thought process is so logical, and so patient (so different to my play!) that I'm learning a great deal on how to "re-program" my thinking during a chess game. Thank you so much @EricRosen !

I love these speed runs. Learn a lot and sometimes amazed how you see many moves ahead. What I would like even more would be new series of speed runs with specific openings. For example speed run to 1500 only using an opening like "The Italian Opening", of course not all games would permit this, but this way we can see how to handle different variations for a specific opening.

So, in the first game when Eric said Black would lose the queen or suffer checkmate in the next move, I spotted f5. It doesn't lose the queen right away and gives the king an escape square. But Stockfish calls it +15 for White, much worse than its recommended plays: Qxg2 or Nc3, both of which lose the queen and are +8 to +9. Pretty hopeless position for Black.
