Walk the Line is very inaccurate and they use "artistic liberty" to make up and change facts. The movie gets a lot wrong. Watch an actual Johnny Cash documentary if you want the truth. I'm friends with the son of Johnny Cash's original and longtime manager, the one who paired up Johnny and June, set up the Folsom Prison show and recording, etc.

There was some controversy over them getting together, because he was cheating on his first wife at the time. That was pretty scandalous among that very conservative fan base. June Carter was part of a famous musical family, almost considered royalty in country music. She didn't believe she was as talented, or as pretty as her sisters, so she decided she'd be the funny one, which you can see in this performance.

The Carter Family (June, her two sisters, and Mother Maybelle) frequently performed the same venues as Johnny Cash...and all the other "A" list country music stars of that era. June and Johnny met backstage at a 1955 performance at the Grand Ole Opry. They became infatuated with one another and "carried on" for many years (during which both were married to other people.) Musically, Johnny and the Carter Family had many successes, beginning with "Ring of Fire" in 1962/1963. Their 1967 duet "Jackson" won a Grammy, and one night in February 1968 after they performed it for an audience in London, Ontario, Canada, Johnny stopped the show and proposed to June on the spot. They were married a month later.

HURT, the Nine Inch Nails song was suggested to Cash by a Rock/Metal producer. Cash did that song with so much emotion. Johnnys health was not good, his booming voice gone, but, you could feel every heartache in his heart. A cover of a Metal song superior to the original, in my opinion.
@coffenut

I thought the same thing. She didn’t realize they were recording and came down the stairs to see what was going on. They decided to keep it in the video. She died shortly after the Hurt video came out. He did something like 3 months later. It was one of those true love stories. She pulled him out of his drug addiction and he credited her with saving his life.

In his last days Johnny Cash was not a well man and those who knew them best were shocked when a June went first because they thought Johnny would go first. Johnny was so broken hearted that he went a few months after his beloved wife. If you listen to the song “Far Side Banks of Jordan” you’ll see how eerie the song is talking about June going first. Another song worth hearing Johnny Cash sing is “Man in White”.

This is a love story. Both June and Johnny were divorced with children when they met. Johnny was dating Junes's sister Anita. However, June, who part of the famous Carter Family singing group, was determined to marry Johnny. She also found out Johnny was a drug addit. With her support and love, Johnny got off the drugs. Then he wisely married June and there were together until her death. He was lost without her and passed away a few months later. June wrote "Jackson" about her courtship with Johnny.

hey India, thanks for reacting to this song! It's kind of a story about how to keep the spark of love/excitement alive in a relationship, but also how both people need to be on the same page to make it work! In the song, they've both been talking about going to Jackson to have a night out, but now he's talking about going without her and how the other women will be wanting to get with him. Then she's saying, yeah right, you better comb your hair, and, see if I care, and I'll be laughing at you when you fall flat.... t's just a story about how relationships can be :)
