You should have followed your sage's advice. and used the oil in the plastic bottle and topped up with the new strawberry juice. Your good lady is an absolute star tea and chilli and she puts up with your cheek.

With oil filters that are a bit tight I've wrapped a sheet of sandpaper round it and that can give you a bit more grip...to be fair though, that looked like it had kind of welded itself on a bit so sandpaper might not have worked. Enjoyed the video👍

Motul's 7100 4T synthetic motorcycle oil comes in 10W-50 (even in 10W-60) with JASO MA2 rating, and it's in bottles.

I like the drink more wine in a box suggestion. The shops hide the oil bag from the customers just as I would hide the wine box from the lady friends.

What you missed, the bag in the box does suck in any air and the left over oil won't degrade. Once empty is can be used for old oil in exactly the same way as you are used to.

First time I've seen oil in a box. I'm assuming the liner is made of plastic AND can't be used again so can't see how this is saving much environmental-wise. Interesting video as always👍

I've got the rubber strap version of your chain filter remover. Very cheap but it works. Although I did have to wipe it off with brake cleaner first for it to grip.

Yea I thought I had a webbing version somewhere but I have a similar clamp thing for joinery I must have been thinking of. You can probably improvise too with some old inner tube etc if you had to

Listen to Mr Chadwick he's not the silver fox for nothing 😎. There's nothing wrong with the oil from last year if it's not used, it's not like brake fluid that you try to use it all now that you opened it.🙂 One other thing to consider I fill my oil filter with oil and let it sit a soak in before I put it back on the bike. Silver Fox might do that as well.😆 Cheers
@DormanDiaries
@DormanDiaries 2 жыл бұрын
We shall agree to disagree :) Yea I mentioned about pre filling etc but didn't use the clip, can't use everything. I always prefill the landy one as its a vertical fitment, same with the diesel filter to aid bleeding. Silver Fox too lazy to do that, he scrunched his nose up at the suggestion I seem to recall!
@2WHEELSor2WINGS
@2WHEELSor2WINGS 2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, I do soak and pre-fill filters when mounted vertical, bit messy when horizontal. They dug up a WW2 Bomber once from a bog. They tested the oil from a unbroken gear box, and guess what....the oil was still in spec after 50 years. 🤔

I think that when the engine comes up to temp, any water in the oil will be vaporized and vented off. Condensation in the fuel tank is what worries light plane pilots.
@2WHEELSor2WINGS
@2WHEELSor2WINGS 2 жыл бұрын
YES. Regular long runs are good for the oil. Where as lots of short runs are much worse for the oil. Every heat cycle of the engine ends with the air in the Crankcase cooling, contracting and drawing air to equalise the pressure. The moisture content of air dependent on temp and humidity. So many heat cycles draws more moisture, long runs boil off moisture. We don't need to be over concerned by this, but it is good to be aware of. 😎

It's about time companies start using boxes with liners, the liner will degrade in 10 years plastic bottles WILL NOT. You better get on board, don't want to lose subscribers over something so simple
@DormanDiaries
@DormanDiaries 2 жыл бұрын
My issue is they are very much single use. Also.. something that I didn’t show that happened after, because I didn’t have a bottle in which to put the old I left it in the bowl on the shed floor until I had chance to fetch an old can. But when tidying I dropped an axle from my wheel balancer into the oil which was annoying… and then when I came back later I had an oil slick inside and outside the shed… it had cracked the bowl. The amount of stuff I had to use to clean that up way outweighed any environmental friendliness. Also do they not recycle plastic oil bottles? I thought they did. If not then perhaps we should go back to metal ones. Either way plastic or metal they get used more times than these disposable ones. I think I’d like to do some more research and see which really is better.
@del5.0
@del5.0 2 жыл бұрын
@@DormanDiaries: I agree the metal ones were better and you can use them repeatedly. Here in the US, we can burn used motor oil in a shop furnace for heat in the winter, it's a perfect way to rid the old oil. Keep up the great work, really enjoy your channel. Cheers!
