Aloha everyone!
Completed my first oil change EVER and I must say, it was pretty easy and I learned a lot! I always change my car oil(I have a Honda Civic) and thought it shouldn’t be that hard on a bike.
**PLEASE PROPERLY DISPOSE ANY USED OIL**
I got the oil changing kit that came with EVERYTHING! The link is 2017-2021 Honda CMX 500 Rebel CMX500 Rebel 500 OEM Complete Oil Change Kit H23 www.amazon.com/dp/B08F83HPY9/...
Things you will need:
Oil changing kit
12MM Socket
An oil pan/catcher
Shop towels/rags
Rear stand(optional)
Cardboard(optional)
ALUMINUM FOIL TO COVER YOUR PIPES!
It took about a total of 5 minutes(if you know what you’re doing). I’m glad I was able to get that hands on experience with my bike. I definitely learned a lot. Like using a plastic bag over my pipes next time to prevent oil from getting on it👀

I watched your video before I did my first oil change. I noticed you was really concerned about getting oil on your pipes, as was I. I decided to just leave it on the kickstand while doing the oil change. It worked out great. I didn’t get a drop on my pipes. Love your videos keep up the good work.

I would recommend on your next oil change is to do it with the bike on its side stand. That way, when you removed the oil filer, it will flows away from the pipes. Good video!

Thanks for the good suggestion! I might try that next time. Everyone is suggesting to put aluminum foil on the pipes to prevent the oil from getting on them.

Yup, I always use foil + use the side stand and I’ve never gotten oil on my pipes. Btw, your tutorials are awesome🤘🏽😉

I did my first oil change after I watched your video. Boy, the oil change was definitely needed. The last owner seems to not have replaced it as they should. Oil came out dark. The bike definitely run smoother now. Thank you 😜

As a side note, its a good idea to go for a short ride, then dump the oil. Science:- Dirt settles out of the oil as it cools. Not a huge issue, just good practice. 😊

This is a great video! Everything is done as it should be. The one thing I would do just to be very safe and sure is to use a torque wrench to tighten the drain bolt. And it’s one of the best investments I’ve made. I’ve a ridden someone’s dirt bike for a quick test run just cuz I wanted to try it out. As I’m riding, I hit the high rev range and the drain bolt pops out and oil starts gushing down as I’m going forward. Idk what he tightened the plug with, but I would use a torque wrench.

Also with torque wrenches you have to calibrate them every once in a while to make sure they’re accurate

Glad I could remind you to change your oil!😂 but I know what you meeeeeeeean! He showed me the invoice receipt and it was OVER $200 for an oil change! UNBELIEVABLE. And the most of it was for labor🤦‍♀️

They also do adjustments and make sure everything is tight not just the oil you pay for the peace of mind knowing your bike is road safe

Thanks for the support, I appreciate it! As for the video with the battery, I will definitely try to make one! I’m actually going to be away from my bike for the next six months due to work, so I had to disconnect the battery since I left my bike in storage. But as soon as I get back, I will try to make a video about disconnecting and connecting the battery for the bike and see if it starts, because I definitely had a bit of a hard time following the manual disconnecting the battery myself😅

Late to the party, but one thing you can use to prevent getting on your exhaust (on any bike) or frame on cars, is using a "form a funnel"

1- Nivelar la moto y dejarla enfriar 2:51- Sacar el tapón superior de aceite y luego la tuerca (12mm) 4:04- Sacar el filtro (poner bolsas para evitar manchar) 6:17- Poner la tuerca con la arandela nueva. A continuación lubrique el filtro de aceite nuevo y apretarlo fuerte a mano 7:03- Rellenar la moto con el nuevo aceite (capacidad según manual 2,5L (2,7L cambiando también el filtro de aceite*)) Poner la tapa. Es buena idea encender la moto antes de llenar completamente los 2,7L para que drene un poco el aceite, notaremos que bajará un poco. Una vez finalizado todo, comprobar fugas, nivel correcto, etc.

I usually put oil to my exhaust pipes after washing my motorcycle. It keeps my exhaust pipe clean and maintain its black color.

Hmmm, I did notice that when I got some oil on my pipes. Is it safe though in the long run? Will it ruin the pipes in any way? I’m curious now...

I had my honda wave 110 in 2008 and luckily up to this year i haven't had a replacement to its exhaust pipe. I usually use oil on sponge and wipe it on the exhaust but now for less hassle i use wd-40 spray. After doing that i leave the motorcycle on and idle until the fumes from the burning oil is gone. The oil keeps off water and it prevents your exhaust pipe from getting rust. And i keep practicing it on my honda rebel.

I’m glad I could help! The cowl was definitely a pain with the tight spaces🙃 haha. But I did use all 3, then realized the bike only needs 2.7qts so I drained some out after!

@@LyssaWithAnE different oil filter, it's a 2020 300, and the oil filter is a little tiny thing..... But basically the same steps... I bought all the stuff for it just haven't done it yet. Maybe after mother's day.... Yea I'll vlog it :)

You are wrong about 'hand tight'. Honda specifies 22 ft lb for the drain plug and 19 ft lb for the filter. The drain plug torque is critical as the crush washer needs to crush (no small torque), yet the thread needs to stay undamaged (no huge torque).

Looks simple enough. How much oil do you need? On my CB300R it uses 1.5 litres i think so i can do 2 oil changes out of one big jug.

Oh woah, 1.5gals? Dang! But honestly, I believe the Rebel takes 2.7qts of oil, just shy of the 3qts the package comes with. The whole process is definitely pretty simple for this bike. Much easier than changing oil on a car in my opinion!

I remember it did hit the stock exhaust a bit, but it wasn’t too drastic or impossible to use it. Other than that, no issues whatsoever!

I have done watching your oil change video, did you pour all 3 x 1L oil on your rebel!?!?!? Because it onlyneeds 2.7L Im not really sure, but as i watch it it you emptied all container! 😱😳

Thanks for the concern and letting my know! I poured a bit out of the first one to use it for the gasket on the filter, but I wasn’t aware that the bike only needs 2.7L instead of 3... I’ll keep an eye out for my bike and the way it runs... probably try to take some oil out if I can maybe...

I used my rear wheel stand that I got from Harbor Freight and I lifted it by the swing arms near the rear tire. I know SOME people don’t even use a stand for their oil change(they keep it on their side kick stand) but I like to keep my bike leveled when I do it

Yup, harbor freight! It was a good price for the rear stand and I love it actually! Well worth the purchase😁 it doesn’t work for the front tire though of course, since it is a rear stand, but I’m able to do everything I need to on the back section with ease! I hope this helped!

For next change - wrap the pipes with aluminum foil - does better job of covering up all the head pipes so no oil gets on them.

@@LyssaWithAnE actually, don't wrap the pipes with the aluminum foil. Just form the foil over the pipes like a channel to direct the oil to you drain pan 😁. Good job!!

It did not. It took a little less than 3. The manual for the Rebel 500 says it holds 2.7qts

That's right you used a piece of newspaper when your bike is not burning hot that exhaust pipe works good for a funnel to stop it going on your fpip brake cleaner works good to get oil about anything might want to watch your paint I'm not sure what it does to paint

Don't Titan your oil drain plug that guy you'd ever you can strip the threads in your gran pain and caused you a bunch of money are telling how it got that tita that look way to tita
