See this unique Narrow Gauge Steam Locomotive being oiled ready
for her run on newly refurbished track. Then see her lit up after dark.
She is in fine shape showing off for this years Harvest Festival at
the Greene County Historical Society. She was the hit of the Festival.
It doesn't get any better than this!
This locomotive in 1916 when it was built came with a kerosene headlight.
In 1920 that was replaced with a Sunbeam pattern 1018 Golden Glow headlight.
Sometime in later years after the loco was retired from revenue service,
the headlight was replaced with a Sunbeam Golden Glow type FF18.
(info provided by James D. Weinschenker in his book: Waynesburg &
Washington Railroad Second Number 4)
Power for the lights was originally provided by a steam powered generator located just
behind the smoke stack. We are going to try and get it to run with compressed air for
next years Harvest Festival and are seeking grant money to get it under steam, so keep your fingers crossed on that one and wish us luck!

Awesome job on replacing the track ...and in time for this event! Lots of great volunteers (yourself included) show their passion for showing this beauty off ...and she definitely shines! Loved the nighttime video with the light effects. (You can just imagine her coming round the bend for the next station.) Keeping up the maintenance & support of this type endeavor is never ending. Glad they have some dedicated folks like those you introduced (& yourself) helping out! Kudos!

02:25 There is more science to oiling than you might think: Some years ago in the UK they rebuilt one of the big main-line Express Locos. While she was out on a run they found that the main bearings were running hot from lack of oil. These long-distance loco's had oil cups on the footplate, with pipes running to the lube points on the bearings, with 'rope' to 'Wick' the oil and control the flow. They had used modern synthetic rope, that had reacted to the oil an swelled up to block the flow. So they replaced the rope with Flax, (what had been used originally), but still had a problem. A 'shout out' the the restoration community produced a can of oil that one of the old shed-men had snagged when they shut down the shed, of the right viscosity. No longer made! They managed to persuade one of the oil companies to analyse it, and do a One-Off run for them. Problem solved! Though we might think that we know it all with our computers and CNC machines, sometimes we are reminded that back in the day, they too knew a thing or two! Things that WE have either forgotten, or just plain never knew.

She moved a lot better this time with that lube-job she had! It's really nice that it is maintained as rolling stock like that, and not just plopped on a piece of track somewhere! There are a few narrow gauge locomotives near me that are like that. They were used in the logging industry back in the day, and are a thing of beauty, but exposed to the elements unfortunately. Glad to see this one be able to get indoors once and awhile! Did I mention the awesome track she is on? That track makes to mobility happen, and will be in great shape for many years to come! Thanks Dave! 😊

@@ccrx6700 I can show the narrow gauge engine that is fairly close to me, then there is a huge engine just north of us (those ran along the river). The narrow gauge engine is truly an oddity in this area because of the terrain, but I believe those trains just ran along the ridges to an area that is flatter to the east, then offloaded the logs onto larger trains to Milwaukee & Chicago. I'll make some videos when I can - there is also an interesting tunnel to the north 😊

Sharp looking. Thinking of its builders date this locomotive was becoming an oddity by 1916. Add in the fact its narrow gauge and every RR was looking for bigger .more powerful locos this little gal was an orphan but your group gave it the TLC it deserves. Excellent work!

Thank Paul and you are certainly correct in that. The reason they got this Mogul was because of the extreme curves they had, one of which was a 33 degree curve. They had early on tried larger loco but it wouldn't hold the curves well. The other railroads back then had the Tim the Tool Man Taylor concept of "more power" lol

1:48 These oil caps reminded me of a scene from one of the greatest war movies (in my opinion), The Train, by John Frankenheimer. In the film, the French engineers would sabotage the engines by sticking coins in the oil caps to halt the flow of oil, much to the chagrin of the Germans. Excellent to see the engine given some love here. Keep it up.

Hey bud. Just stumbled across your channel. I wanted to comment on the most recent video so you see it. I am a tri-axle driver who hauls out of the tipple durring the winter months. 3rd year doing so. i am a huge railfan and avid historian in our regional coal industry and heritage. i have seen you a time or two pull up behind the tipple in your hi-railer and wait for us to get loaded. I have met several employees at the mine. Anyway great channel. Keep up the great work down there and keep making great videos. Long live King Coal! FJB!

Hey that's great news. If only all facilities and gen plants in the region had the same news. Today was a hell of a morning down there. Apparently the silo was over 70% full so they decided to load the train before the trucks. We waited till after 7 till the train was loaded. Then I guess both 38s were having issues and they couldn't get it moving. I didn't get loaded till 830. Just 1 load today after the delay. May not be back for a while either as i heard today was the last day for the keycon contract. But we'll see you again soon I'm sure. Keep them rails shiney!
