Probably the only time that a band lip-synced live and no one cared.

Probably the one time a band performed on treadmills and didn't play.

They didn't even lip sync either

Creativity is not what it used to be. No tik tok dance will EVER measure up to this level of brilliance! *Chef's kiss*

Takes some huge balls to perform this live. Yah it has nothing to do with the music, which is a catchy pop song, but this is about the music video which is amazingly recreated here.

Amazing they were able to do this live!

At least four high school students were able to do it live; is it really amazing that professionals could do it live too?

Paul Chapman They are not professional dancers.

I’ve seen the VMAS for 20,25 years and never heard the crowd so loud while a performance was going on. This was a moment ❤️

I remember when this happened and a news reporter had said something about it... I didn't see the performance so I just scoffed and said "big deal" then I actually watched the video and I was like holy crap they pulled that off LIVE?? This was awesome...

I can't even imagine doing this live! I'd read a comment in the original video saying that the music video took a tons of takes, not sure if that's true

yeah, this is what _i_ want to see a rock and roll band do: highly choreographed dancing, no singing or playing of any kind, and a TOTAL cop out to any semblance of respectability. it's SUCH a surprise the Top 40 never heard another peep from these guys after that one hit, gimmicky success. i even remember their next single was supported by a video of a massive Rube Goldberg machine (that they had nothing to do with, outside of prostituting it's success for their cheasy music video). classy. what rock and roll NEEDS is more cheap, gimmicky publicity hounds like these. and the thing is? their music is FINE. if they wrote _songs_ instead of _wannabe catch-phrase meme nonsense,_ they'd be fine. whatever, it's NOT for me. and to be fair, it's certainly better than any of MY performances at the MTV Video Music Awards (that have not happened and will NEVER happen). so they win. i lose, they win.
