As someone who has made their own mods for the original creation engine I knew there would be a ton of loading screens just based on how the engine works, I thought creation engine 2 would be similar. I can't really explain it here but think the limitations of the creation engine is also it also one of the reason we don't have vehicles on planets. The world streaming isn't fast enough to go at speed higher than sprinting or else the game starts lagging and freezing trying to load everything in so quickly. If they did add vehicles to the game they would be extremely slow. This is why the horse in skyrim was so slow.

@@robertlawrence9000 There are vehicle mods for fallout 4 and they are awful. The engine doesn't allow the player to move fast enough because the way world streaming works cant catch up fast enough to the player so it get laggy and freezes when you move faster than sprinting speed.

You can force Starfield to use Auto HDR on pc with a trick, but I wouldn't really recommend it. Doesn't really seem to do too much lol still crazy colour banding and game is still too bright because of no brightness slider. Crazy to think about how Bethesda has been making PC games for over 20 years at this point and can still miss out basic PC features that they even had in past games Having a fun time with the game regardless of these issues though but they really do need to be fixed

Persistent objects on the ground was a fun little thing I always enjoyed about the Oblivion and Fallout games. In Oblivion I had a house that I usually used as my "home" for storage, etc. But then I owned another house on the other side of the map that I'd store a few things in if I was on an adventure over there or whatever. I took a bunch (like... dozens) of empty beer and wine bottles and threw them all over the floor in the other house just because it looked funny, like a broke alcoholic college student lived there. And those bottles stayed there basically forever. Every time I went back into that house it made me chuckle with all these empties clinging around on the floor while I was getting some stuff out of the storage containers.

And even ED has its weird system where you are encouraged to supercruise at minimum speed because it makes signal sources spawn closer to you. Although that might be because they had to make it multiplayer friendly, so tracking a bunch of stuff throughout the galaxy (even if it's abstracted if it's not near the player) would be infeasible. Come to think of it, the absurd size of the galaxy Elite Dangerous probably doesn't do them any favours either.

They should replace load screens with animations of the ship grav jumping or moving at a fast speed or entering atmosphere for space / fast travel For ground they should seriously consider extending animations for transitioning cells by making it look as if the player is opening the door and blurring what's on the other side until it loads. Just one idea so as to not have it feel as annoying. Smooth transitions in the form of longer animations in between cells could be used to create the illusion of things happening while loading a bunch.

I was wondering the same thing when he said that. It's like he's completely out of touch with how Nvidia has controlled the market when it comes to graphics acceleration for over two decades. It's AMD that has always gotten the short end of the stick. Even now, if you're trying to run open-source programs such as AI computing, you need an Nvidia graphics card, as many software programs are immediately supported on Nvidia graphics cards, and you have to do so many workarounds just to get them running on AMD. Also, when he said that his RTX 4080 is not some top-of-the-range gaming PC, I was like, 'What the heck?' Seriously? It's like someone saying, 'I don't have a very powerful sports car, just a Lamborghini compared to a Bugatti,' while completely forgetting that those are luxury cars.

I was expecting the loading screen as well but not as much than it currently is, even climbing ladder requires a loading screen, I think if there's a climbing animation that would be nice, and for the grav drive instead of leaving the loading screen pitch black they couldve add in a looping animation showing your ship travelling within the tunnel of the wormhole (some theory suggest there is no "tunnel" within a wormhole, it'll just be a stitched hole from A to B without the tunnel, but hey its a game we do what is best for the experience). That way it will make you feel like it is taking some time to actually go there, and you get to see the space curvature of the tunnel shifting the light of the stars around the wall, and we won't be greeted with this somewhat distracting black loading screen forcing us to wait for it to load when there's nothing to see. personally I have a relatively old laptop that is 1650TI mobile, I can definitely say it is 20 to 30% more demanding than cyberpunk (I used to play that around 50-70 fps, I optimized it as much as possible (graphic settings + mod optimizations) without turning it into minecraft, but for this I have no choice but to tune everything down just to play it around 30 to 50 fps, sometimes it'll lag a little during a fight. (I'm struggling with this potato laptop, planning to buy a 4090 laptop at some point and because of my work I need something mobile instead of desktop and this is going to obliterate my wallet for sure)

You load when climbing a ladder to enter a ship because it functions as a mobile player-home, where you can decorate the ship or drop items on the floor and expect them to be there when you come back. It also needs to be an interior cell in order to reliably track the items on the ship and transfer them when switching to a new home ship.

@@strangestecho5088 yeah it is quite impressive in terms of how the game actually works under the hood, I don't think they didn't consider about this, and most likely they are just tight with their schedule anyway and no one want to address such a challenging issue and their engine has become less and less capable of what they are trying to achieve, some may argue its a RPG game blablabla but from a gamer who know nothing about game dev and who have been playing open world games for all these years it would seems a little out of place not to have things like that. I believe they don't want their game to have so many loading screens as well. Maybe some predictive preloading with AI? and maybe some other methods that can improve the game.

Been enjoying the game on PC so far, performance wise I'm happy my PC isn't struggling while I'm not running the latest and greatest. AMD Ryzen 1700 with an NVIDIA RTX 3070 FSR turned off and 100% render scale, used most settings recommended from the optimization video that the guys at Hardware Unboxed made with my choice for quality and being on 1080P. The loading screens don't bother me personally, my only gripe is how fast one can run out of oxygen at least in early game play.

I have a 6700XT and it has been mostly smooth for me. The default medium settings looked pretty rough with the render scale automatically set to 50 percent, so I bumped that up along with a few other settings and it runs well for the most part. It could be better though... a few dips here and there in New Atlantis, but other areas have been pretty stable. I will say it's miles better than the quality of some other PC ports we have seen like Jedi Survivor, but it does seem to be mostly unable to push into high refresh rate territory judging from some performance charts I have seen. The Xbox's 30 fps cap makes a lot more sense looking at some of these performance metrics. On that note, I tested it on my Series S also, and despite the 30fps cap, it looks very nice and is very stable. For a 300 dollar machine it's actually kind of crazy.

The performance is never going to get better. This is the result of a year of collaboration with Microsoft specialist engineers to get it to where it is now (specifically mentioned in an interview as Microsoft "wizards"). Before Microsoft delayed it for a year it was an absolute mess, and would have released in a state much like all their previous games: playable, but with terrible stuttering and a load of bugs. The reason it is relatively bug free and has somewhat okay performance on PC is because of a massive push by Microsoft over a years period. I reckon they have done everything they can to get this much performance out of this engine, and it's simply been pushed as far as it can go. Despite all this, it's an utterly brilliant game :)

LOL the wizards at Microsoft sound like the geniuses at Apple.. especially with Microsoft's current track record and competency.. But Also... I don't think people realize that when you iterate on an engine like they do, it's not the same engine anymore and this one is even further removed as there was an overhaul a while ago... The game, for what it's worth seems to balance its threads pretty well but it's suspiciously dependent on memory bandwidth for some reason, which is thrown CPU hierarchy charts up on its head.. I e a 13th gen i-4 is better than a 5800 x 3D.. whatever reason led to that is all well and good but it's also kind of problematic as to how much memory bandwidth you need in order to get acceptable performance rather than that it also scales directly with it.. scaling would have been interesting but scaling to acceptable when you're basically requiring a ddr5 setup to even scratch the push over 60 for the most part on a 4090.. and even then it's a struggle because well memory bandwidth is just usually not your main concern with games and a lot of programs for the most part.. LOL. I just wouldn't say that they're pushing the engine so far as to get all they can out of it.. maybe you're right and they need to rebuild some things from the ground up.. but that's kind of what they've been doing.. gold source went into source engine, would you call source engine the same thing as the gold source engine or the quake 2 engine? They're pretty different but they're also pretty similar LOL.

To be fair, Todd did say they'd support this game for years. I fully expect them to eventually add more structures to planets and probably even a 4 wheeler or something. The foundation is already there. It's only gonna get better

I've really been enjoying the game so far, but yeah, I'm on a rtx 3070Ti, and I have to run on the lowest settings, running on a ultra or high, I get like 40 fps, and my card usually pulls 144fps on most games.

Dude, it isn't a frigging competitive FPS, so what's the point of having to play in a such framerate? it's a Bugthesda game, I don't think the animations are higher than 60fps and you basically giving away performance you could use in prettier graphics, just find a balance where you PC holds 60fps stable in that game and you'll notice anything different rather than the visuals.

I wish the outer space/ship flying was a bit more involved too. Other than that it reminds me a lot of mass effect 2 loading. FSR got priority because that's what the series x can support. I've not tried dlss mods but they exist. I've got an AMD chip with a 3090 and am getting maybe 55 fps on average, across the board.

I wonder if there will be problems with the savegames if every item stays where it's dropped. Having too many items in the past destroyed them with too many IDs. Hope they fixed that
@bwabbel
@bwabbel 9 ай бұрын
There's definitely a limit of what the engine can handle. The more items there are in the world the bigger the savefiles will get and the more ids are needed. Not sure what the limits are for the engine but probably high enough as long as you're not pushing it on purpose
@DavidUtau
@DavidUtau 9 ай бұрын
@@bwabbelyeah, the "safe" limit is on the +3millions as far as I remember. This is counting references to the items when the game spawns then at the start of a game. Starfield, by being made with procedural content in mind, might have a different system. It's not like someone has the entire game and how it works figured out by now, tho
@saschaberger3212

@@DavidUtau well I hit that limit twice in Skyrim. Once cheated once with a normal playthrough. 3 millions sounds crazy high. Well let's hope

First time I've heard that NVidia graphics are not getting the best performance. Xbox is an AMD APU. Seeing that in the last while that AMD video cards are selling more it is good to see that finally that AMD is getting some good press. How the tables have turned.

Game is just too generic and bland for me to find any reason to play it. And space and planets not being proper explorable but just glorified loading screens and how you look at a map more when travelling than actually being in the world feels like a huge fundamental design flaw of the game.

The gut punch of all gut punches: Essentially *no* outer space travel in an open world space game. Todd Howard: "We let you design and build your own ship. And yes, you can fly it." Fly it, or 'fast travel it', Todd ?

Yeah, the loading screens aren't what puts me off, it's the feeling of fragmention that comes as a consequence of it. Having a single open world like Skyrim even with loading screens felt like I was travelling and adventuring in one persistent world. With Starfield it feels like a bunch of disjointed zones.

If anyone has a 10 series or older nVidia GPU best of luck getting a good FPS. I have a 1080TI (and Ryzen 5900x, 32GB 3800 ram) and this is the first game that has made my GPU crawl. 30FPS on average (usually max) at 1440p with FSR2 and 80% resolution scaling. I wish DLSS worked for older cards.
