Some fun facts for ya, man. This song was originally titled "Everybody Wants To Go To War," but was re-named because it didn't feel right to the twin brothers in Tears For Fears. So they took the line "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" from The Clash's 'Charlie Don't Surf,' and used it to re-title the song. The song's hypnotic bass line comes from Simple Minds 'Waterfront,' and most likely later inspired Michael Jackson to make the song 'The Way You Make Me Feel.' Do check out The Clash when you can. They're my favorite band of all-time, and I am certain you'd love them. In addition to 'Charlie Don't Surf,' here are 5 songs I think you should listen to from them. 'London Calling' 'Rock The Casbah' 'Clampdown' 'Ghetto Defendant' 'I Fought The Law'

Big fan of Tears to Fears. Their 2nd album “Songs from the Big Chair” came out in 1985 and made them world famous. Many of their songs are in several movies which brought their music to a younger audience. They broke up and have reunited a few times in the 2000’s. They released a greatest hits album in 2017. Tears for Fears were founded in 1981 by Roland Orzabal on guitar he is also the song writer and Curt Smith doing most of the singing. The band's debut album, The Hurting (1983), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Their second album, Songs from the Big Chair (1985), reached number one on the US Billboard 200, achieving multi-platinum status in both the UK and the US. Songs from the Big Chair contained two Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World"'.

Curt Smith (Bass, Vocals - lead on this song) and Roland Orzabel (Guitarist, Vocals) were both born in 1961, so they would've been 23 or 24 years old when the song video was filmed in 1985.

To me this song held the hopes of the 80's (future(, the promise of what could be. I was born in the early 70's so I've seen the transition of thought pattern. One that said the world could be harmonious in song, a togetherness, to one that says that the greed in song would destroy the world (the now). I dig this song. Great reaction!!!

Tears for Fears 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World ' came out a few years before Michael Jackson's 'The Way You Make Me Feel'. Quincy Jones (Michael Jackson's producer) claims that Michael Jackson stole the bass line for the song and that M.J. also plagiarised many other songs for several of his biggest hit records.
@jordashi
@jordashi 3 жыл бұрын
music only has so many chords and rhythm that I doubt you can call it stealing or plagiarism, The Way You Make Me Feel and this song both follow a shuffle pattern in their songs and considering that many producers were using the same synthesizers and drum machines it's not hard to have a song sound too close to each other at that time. Prince even admitted he had to call Journey after he created Purple Rain because he felt like it sounded too close to Faithfully. So it's not uncommon for artists to make a record that sounds very close to another record because again very limited amount of chords in music that hasn't been used in a certain way.
