Curt Smith was 24 in 1985. The main leads are from Great Britain---not sure about the rest of the band. I heard this song about a month ago in a fabric store (of all places) and it reminded me of the 80's. I'd forgotten about it--now I play it daily. Thanks for this wise reaction.

I have several boxes full of vinyl from the 60s through to 90s - best time is to get some snacks and as glass or two of wine and just play whatever. Then there are the 45s. 60s to 80s brought a lot of fantastic music. I would like you to check out Supertramp's album Sound of the Century - Particularly Rudy's on a Train to Nowhere and Hide in your Shell. x

Ahhh you are reacting to one of my all time favorite bands. I'm dating myself I know, but I had their tapes (yes, I said tapes lol) and listened to them alllllll the time. I'm sure you've heard the remakes of their song Mad World. I've never seen a reactor react to them before. Ahhh I just love them! Both Curt (the singer in this song) and Roland (playing guitar) formed the band and they were both 24 in this video.

When I was a teenager in the ‘80s I didn’t really think one way or another about Tears for Fears. As I’ve gotten older I started paying attention to what they are actually saying; this is a really powerful song. I’m pretty sure they were in their twenties at this time. Curt Smith (the singer) has always had kind of a baby face. Even now that he’s much older, you can still kinda see it. Love that you reacted to this. Much ❤️ & ✌🏻 always. 😊

@@xoxxobob61 That's not what Jennifer said, though! Not that she didn't _think_ of them, more that she just didn't think about Tears for Fears one way or the other - ie had no _strong_ opinion about the band back then. Quite possibly because as teenagers we often tend to get swept up in the _melody_ of well-known songs and sing along with the lyrics without actually pausing to interpret their _meaning._ Another good example might be _Don't You Want Me_ by the Human League. Like many, I blithely sang along to this song as a teenager, not once realising it's a deeply unpleasant song - not about love at all, but about coercive control. 😐

My junior & senior year in high school (1999-2000), gas was 98 cents a gallon at one station in my town. The highest was about $1.27. You couldn't even spend $20 at the pump because my truck had a 16 gallon tank. For 18 bucks, I could get a full tank of gas.

"Say that you'll never, never, never, never need it...." To me, that's arms race angst, of which there was much in those days. Memory's a funny thing--I miss the 80s, especially all the people that were alive then that aren't anymore (like my mother)--but now we know how it turned out. The Cold War was a very worrisome thing at the time. I'm trying to remember--I think 1985 was pre-Gorbachev. And that's probably gas in CA--in IN in 1985, it was more like 85 cents/gallon.

I recommend *Donny Osmond* from the 70's. He was a friend of MJ's. Donny's cover of *Go Away Little Girl* was #1 on the Pop chart in Sept. 1971. It was 2 months before his 14th birthday. He and his brothers *The Osmonds* also had a hit with *One Bad Apple* when it hit #1 in January 1971 and stayed there for 5 weeks. The Osmonds and The Jackson 5 became friends, especially Michael and Donny because they were only a year apart in age and so much younger than most others in the music industry at the time. They stayed friends until Michael's death. Michael went concentrated more on his musical career as they got older while Donny preferred to make creating a family a priority over a music career. Donny still performed but at the time he didn't want to spend so much of his time away from the family he wanted.

I was 20 in 1985. From memory Tears For Fears, Spandau Ballet, Duran Duran and Ultravox were big at the time. U2 were still good and Simple Minds had Don’t You Forget About Me in the charts. Live Aid happened that summer, and Simply Red released Picture Book late in the year. Terence Trent D’Arby hit the charts around that time but I can’t remember if it was 85.
