I just opened up a pair of Paradigm Atom V.3's to re-foam the woofers. Nice cast frame woofers, decent tweeters, and brass binding posts. But... the crossover is a different story, ALL the cheese! Iron core inductor, electrolytic cap, and sand cast resistor. The nice brass binding posts have steel nuts and steel spade connectors. Wire is PVC coated cheese. The front baffles are 3/4" MDF, CNC machined, but the sides are 1/2" particle board. I made my wife look at all of this and said, "Danny would talk about all of the "cheesy" parts and ferro magnetics in the circuit path". Danny, I just want you to know that you have completely corrupted my viewpoint about loudspeaker construction. I have built some pretty good DIY speakers, but they would have been soooo much better using what I have learned about crossovers and signal flow from your KZfaq videos. Thank you so much!

I have the Studio 80's and the cabinets are very well built but yes the crossover construction is fresh off the farm, filled with cheese. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the Paradigms but, maybe they could have been better.

Depending on what version Atoms you have cheese is all they deserved in the crossover to meet it's price point. No crossover components would make the Atoms V3s compete with the next model up: Mini Monitors.

The reflections of the tweeter directly on the floor is going to be a bigger issue as it will cause comb-filtering as the reflection is no longer delayed in time vs the tweeter being closer to middle of the room with a traditional floor or ceiling reflection.

I always thought Klipsch designed the speakers this way to have a strong low end and a bright high end. It seems many people prefer this type of inaccurate sound. It raises the question, then: why did Klipsch wire them out-of-phase? Klipsch has engineers, and one would assume they have a QA procedure. I understand cheap parts in the crossover. Maybe the resulting issue is a result of Klipsch building the speaker to a target budget. Those speakers cost $1k a pair. To fix the issue would cost $539. The question is, can Danny fix the issue within the same budget as klipsch maybe $25 - $50 and not $539?

@@flargosa Klipsch intentionally makes them sound the way they do. They could for the exact same price make them sound the way Danny Does. It has NOTHING to do with budget at all.
