Rob J I agree, however, Julia Lipnitskya was pretty close in her prime. She is the Russian girl who killed it during the team event in Sochi, securing the gold for the Russian team as the girl in the red coat skating to music from Schindler's List at just 15 years old. She struggled in the singles competition (placing 5th I believe) as a result of the media attention after her gold medal win for the Russian team, as she and members of her family were followed everywhere they went, constantly stopped and intruded upon (listening devices were found in her locker at her rink in Moscow where she went back to train for the single events after her team win) and swarmed by paps and fans (or stans) constantly, with the whole country taking immense interest in her every move, placing huge expectations and pressures on her til she cracked. Post Olympics, she was heavily scrutinized about her weight, as she was going through puberty and her body changing affecting her skating, which is completely normal with girls having to relearn balance and control and find their center for jumps and such and she began to struggle, but seemed to find her groove, until ultimately after disappointing (not terrible, with some amazing programs and skates, but inconsistent with others) until her 2016/2017 season, caused by what we now know to he complications with Anorexia Nervosa affecting her strength and jumping, with muscle cramps and injuries due to malnutrition leading to her stay at a treatment center in Israel and then her retirement. She was literally bullied and picked apart for her weight during the phases of puberty where her body was changing, despite her never actually being fat or overweight. She truly had beautiful artist ability that reminds me of Oksana Baiul. She used her whole body in a way to was beautiful and naturally flowy, with amazing musicality, whereas many of the girls I see now look awkward overusing their arms and not connecting to the music. It's just a shame that people bullied and picked her apart for her weight and normal body changes during puberty, already a stressful, awkward, uncomfortable and self conscious time in a girl's life. Coupled with the intense, constant and even scary (she chose not to live in her flat, rather staying in a hotel in order to feel safe considering she was stopped on the street by strangers, including old men, wanting her attention and more, thinking they knew her and were owed pictures with her or her information to hang out with or call and be her friend or expecting something in return for gifts and fandom, with people trying to get her address and phone number, even approaching her family members and training rink) intrusion from paparazzi and media and bullied for her appearance on social media , as a naturally very shy, reserved and private person, it was all clearly too much for her, leading to her starving herself and excessive working out and training to slim down to be super skinny, trying to get back to the prepubescent body everyone expected and hounded her about. Naturally, it affected her health and athletic and physical strength and ability, and as a resulting in her retiring from competitive/professional figure skating to work on her physical and mental health out of the fishbowl. She was truly amazing and beautiful and talented and unique, and her Olympic short program and free skate for the 2014 Olympics are my faves after Oksana's. They were incredible performances and honestly reminded me of Oksana's because of how artistically beautiful and technically amazing they were!

You simply don't understand Oksana achieved her zenith---Olympic gold. It wasn't possible for her to achieve beyond her Olympic dream. Why? Because she didn't have any support at all. Oksana didn't have anyone to help her. Baiul was surrounded by bloodsucking predators & takers. It nearly killed her to survive those around her. All the hardships & cruelties she endured took a toll. An artist needs a nurturing, caring, supportive environment to create & sustain the mental & creative energies of artistic ability.

Her work & victory over Kerrigan stands out as a triumph of skill, dedication & will over marketing, money & power. Hers is one of the greatest Olympic triumphs of all time. I've never seen anyone else who can dance as beautifully, elegantly, and gracefully as Oksana Baiul on ice. A truly extraordinary talent!!
