He's the Conductor! Most important position of an Orchestra. He's keeping the tempo and signals sections to be louder or softer. It's very difficult to become a conductor. Years of work and dedication. This is a simplified explanation of what they do.

A lot of opera greats over the years, but you could pick his voice out of a lineup in a second. So iconic. I love watching videos of him and his father singing together at mass when they were both still alive.

A former co worker filled me in on memories of his grandfather and one of them was Pavarotti on the record player and how lost in it his g'pa would get. 4-5 guys who normally listen to pantera, megadeth, slayer.. e.c.t. in absolute silent reverence for the music and the memory. Our foreman, the shop owner, production manager all in shock at what was coming from my radio and could be heard up in the offices in a loud ass fiberglass shop. Pure beauty...

The thing about opera is that even though it is in a foreign language (Italian, German, etc...) as Americans, it is not usually in a language that we understand. The beauty is, that the music, the song/singing, acting, doesn't need to be in English. The emotion translates itself. To me personally, it speaks to my soul. Pavarotti was AMAZING. There are other amazing opera singers. There are AMAZING operas. I truly hope that one day you are able to go see live a classical opera. Best wishes!

5:50 you just heard the finale and now you like hold up hold up I got to go back I got to go back. I cannot tell you man I've seen is maybe 20 times at this point and does it so powerfully, it's almost like a takes him a few seconds to even realize what he just did. It's like he was possessed for a minute and then he comes back to being his actual regular human self and realizes that he fucking nailed it and the audience is going nuts and oh my God that gives me goosebumps every freaking time. And I love the fact that you are able to catch all that and feel it. It speaks volumes about your ability to resonate with music for sure.

Regardless if you are familiar with, a fan (or not) of Opera as a genre, you can still appreciate the natural talent & dedication of this legendary tenor to become one of the best this modern world has ever seen. This was recorded back in 1994 when Luciano was 59 years old. How many modern day pop stars half his age can belt out notes like he did? Sadly, very few these days. This was back before auto tune & done in front of a live audience consisting of over 75,000 people. This is just an aria (solo part) of the opera "Turandot" by Giacomo Puccini, written in 1924 & first performed in 1926. The world lost a tremendous talent when Luciano passed away in 2007. I'm glad that my 2nd favorite tenor, Andrea Bocelli, is still alive & singing his heart out... When I was a kid I didn't like opera much because to my immature & unsophisticated ears, it all just seemed like a bunch of yelling done in singsong form & I couldn't understand the words. It wasn't until I was in my late teens/early 20's when I began to fully appreciate what it took to become a trained classical (aka opera) singer. You don't have to understand the lyrics in order to feel the raw passion behind each performance. Great music & incredible natural talent transcends all languages & ages. Luciano was once quoted saying that his vocal cords were kissed by God. Yeah, no truer words were ever spoken. His whole body is a cathedral of angelic sounds. ❤ I saw another comment which is so spot on "Hearing your first opera with Luciano singing is like taking your very first car ride in a Rolls Royce"

As the final act opens, it is now night. Calaf is alone in the moonlit palace gardens. In the distance, he hears Turandot's heralds proclaiming her command. His aria begins with an echo of their cry and a reflection on Princess Turandot: "Nessun dorma" Nessun dorma! Nessun dorma! Tu pure, o Principessa, nella tua fredda stanza, guardi le stelle che tremano d'amore, e di speranza! None shall sleep! None shall sleep! Not even you, oh Princess, in your cold bedroom, watching the stars that tremble with love, and with hope! Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me; il nome mio nessun saprà! No, No! Sulla tua bocca, lo dirò quando la luce splenderà! But my secret is hidden within me; no one will know my name! No, no! On your mouth, I will say it when the light shines! Ed il mio bacio scioglierà il silenzio che ti fa mia! And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! Just before the climactic end of the aria, a chorus of women is heard singing in the distance: Il nome suo nessun saprà, E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir! No one will know his name, and we will have to, alas, die, die! Calaf, now certain of victory, sings: Dilegua, o notte! Tramontate, stelle! Tramontate, stelle! All'alba, vincerò! Vincerò! Vincerò! Vanish, o night! Fade, you stars! Fade, you stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win! Just before the extra climactic end of the aria, a chorus of women is heard singing in the distance again: O sole! Vita! Eternità! Luce del mondo è amore! Or sun! Life! Eternity! Light of the world is love! Calaf, now certain of glory, sings: Ride e canta nel sole L'infinita nostra felicità! Gloria a te! Gloria a te! Laugh and sing in the sun Our infinite happiness! Glory to you! Glory to you! None shall sleep! None shall sleep!

The bulk of a conductor's work is not during the concert but rather at rehearsals. At the concert now all the musicians already know enough by heart what they have to do. The conductor is however necessary to give the attacks, to give security and to suggest, through the movements, the intention of the execution which, even if imperceptibly, is different at each performance. There are standard gestures to mark tempo and dynamics and attacks, and then there are personal gestures typical of each conductor to convey emotion to the musicians. As a musician you may fear that you have gone out of time, so you look up from the score and look at the conductor and you always have the reference to know if you are right. Also keep in mind that in classical and opera tempo is almost never constant, you don't do classical with a drum machine to be clear, it's a variable parameter to play with to arouse the desired emotions.

Opera is one of the most difficult genres of music to sing. If anybody can sing Opera, they really know how to sing, and sing properly without damaging their vocal cords. There is no use of gimmicks, technical voice enhancements nor lip syncing during live performances and studio recordings. That's why it's imperative to train with a vocal coach, to prevent from damaging your vocal cords when you're singing professionally.

Freddie sang with the incomparable Operatic Soprano Montserrat Caballé… As far as I know, he never sang with Pavarotti ( in fact, Pavarotti was angry that Caballé did it at all ) But after Pavarotti saw and heard the immense success of the Mercury/Caballé collaboration … SUDDENLY he was collaborating with non-opera singers too. The Queen member that Pavarotti DID sing with was *Brian May* , for a rendition of “Too Much Love Will Kill You” in 2003 at the Pavarotti and Friends Annual Benefit Concert.

THE STICK The man standing in front is the Conductor and he's directing the entire thing waving a "baton" the 'stick" like thing, and baby he's like the conductor on train. It ain't goin' nowhere unless he says so. The conductor is in charge of everything and the musicians and singers are watching him like a hawk.. His eyes, his face,, his hands are telling you a hundred details and you're playing your instrument, and singing exactly like he's telling you from his movemens. He can actually hear every note from each instrument and voice and in rehearsal he'll stop abruptly or tap the baton on the lecturn First violin ! That is a pianissimo ! Pick it up ! Cellos this isn't a brass band ! light..light lifting the baton vertically. OK begin again from...They make the big bucks, there are few of them and they are the Kings, best of the best in the music world and have earned it through years of study and work. They are there to interpret the exact meaning of say, Beethoven's composition he's "conducting" every meaning in each phrase of music and telling each musicians exactly how to play and sing each note so all together it sounds exactly like he wants it to.

6:15 Well, since you are seriously rewinding,. I believe I read another comment that said man look at the translation. But yeah it's actually an amazing story, but it's an Italian like a lot of Opera then you would need to look it up. But at any rate just know that as it goes into that finale, it's essentially a victory song for this guy. And once again it's an amazing story but this is his moment of Triumph and yet it hasn't completed yet, he is waiting for his moment of Triumph to occur in the morning which is coming up, it's like when he sings that amazing finale it's close to Sunrise and he know he's going to win he's going to win this battle. He's going to win and no it's not in a military context but with a woman. And I won't give anything more away than that, but when he hits that final stretch, it's almost like the sun is coming up and he suddenly knows that he is going to be victorious. He is going to win the contest. It is an absolute tour-de-force. And he represents it perfectly. I'm so glad not only that you got into this, but that you are so in tune with it.

4:05 I have to wonder where you get all your knowledge from, that's pretty amazing. You just made the comment that he was sitting down and not even standing up and doing all this, and, that is right on man. You really need that physical support for the kind of thing he's doing and standing would definitely give more support. I've seen this a few times, but I can't remember if he does stand up to deliver that tour de force at the end or not but either way man. Right on man how do you know all this shit?

He is standing throughout the aria. He is on a lower stage level than the conductor. Watch how he leans over the music stand during one section, showing absolute perfection in breath control to lightly sing that last note, an "a" sound. You can see in his eyes after he hits that ending high C that he knows he's given the performance of a lifetime. "I will win!"

No he is definitely not sitting down. Air flow’s free in and out of the lungs when standing with back straight. Sitting you can be cramped up. With the notes he’s hitting and the lung power it takes he needs to be standing.

First time I've seen someone react to this that rewinded it several times just to appreciate it more. For your next Opera/Luciano Pavarotti reaction, I *_highly_* recommend Vesti La Giubba - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kJaAgNRlva3Yimg.html

0:25 I I caught your reaction on that man, it was Pavarotti with James Brown doing the James Brown song it's a man's world. And you should know that Pavarotti had a high regard for James Brown. Just as he did for Elvis Presley. Regarding James Brown, he said that James Brown could probably do it he did if he had enough training but that no matter how much training, he could never do what James Brown did. For being a force of Nature and a man's man and just a triumphant figure like that? He was also a humble motherfuker if you know what I mean. And then regarding Elvis Presley, he wants said that if Elvis it had any formal vocal training growing up he may well have been the greatest opera singer of the twentieth century, and since he is widely regarded as one of the greatest opera singers of the twentieth century, to say that about somebody like Elvis Presley? Once again a humble motherfuker.

🤔 Interested in music and doesn't know difference between COMPOSER and CONDUCTOR!? A small hint, the composer in this case passed away about 99 years ago. 💥💥💥

With out the conductor no one would know when to come in, it would be a sloppy mess with out the conductor. They practice over and over to be on the same bit at the same moment. The conductor knows ever little thing about the music and what everyone is suppose to do and he makes sure they are all doing it.
