Having been to the Himalaya many times on climbing and trekking expeditions, Baiba and i launched a trek to the Khumbu region and invited close friends from Canada who had one way or another helped us along the many paths that took us to Nepal in the first place.
We were able to wrangle our old friends Lhakpa Tshering Sherpa and Ang Nima Sherpa to expedite and lead the trek which took us past their homes in Khunde to Gokyo Lakes, to the top of Renzo-la, and up and over Cho-la.
In 1982 i worked alongside Lhakpa and Ang Nima on the first Canadian Everest expedition and reached the top with Lhakpa. In 1991, these two carried high for another Canadian expedition i filmed, this time on the Tibet side. In 1994, Ang Nima was our sirdar when Baiba and i walked the 600 km distance from Annapurna to Everest, and in 2000 Lhakpa was our sirdar on the circum Kangchenjunga book project.
In this video, shot mostly handheld on an analogue handycam, we see Baiba, Laura Schlessinger, Donna Rapp, Judy Otton, Bart Robinson, Linda Irvine, Allen Slade, and cameo appearances by Nim Phuti, Ngima Tshering, Mingma Ritha, Frances Klatzel and our stalwart Rai porters.
If, in the year 2000 we classified ourselves as Ol' Farts, what category of fart does that make us 24 years later? 😉
