L take about Beast Wars being not that good. It is that good. Great voicing, intentionally hilarious writing, and well executed drama.

Agreed, beast wars was really amazing, the names of the character, not so much. I always remember the line “hey, I’m a cheeta, no I’m Cheetor!”

As far as transformers content goes it’s good, but watching it today it’s just goofy. If I didn’t have nostalgia for it I wouldn’t like it. Dinobot is the best part though

I'm about 85% sure there's a bit towards the end of the show where Silverbolt is off secretly romancing Blackarachnia, and he claims he was just out scouting, to which Rattrap goes "You uhh, heh, learn any new positions?"

I remember being a kid in the 80s, and seeing Tron thinking it's a masterpiece of technologie. Sometimes it's the original idea that counts at the time.

ReBoot was great. Most episodes were centred around a game that the unseen User would play and the characters in the computer had to beat the game or they get deleted. Lots of cool references in the show like Star Trek, Dungeons & Dragons, and even Evil Dead and Doom.

Beast Wars… My childhood. Just rewatched it two years ago. The voice acting is genius. The voices are the characters' traits, not just means to verbalise the script. Fell in love with the characters mostly because of the performances.

Crazy that Cheetor is the voice of Pilar from Cyberpunk Edgerunners, both subbed and dubbed. Also the first english voice of Adult Goku.

Beast Wars was animated by Rainmaker Entertainment, who also made ReBoot, and later in the early 2000s the DTV Barbie movies, as well as the Ratchet and Clank 2016 film. Actually, VeggieTales is quite good and built our childhoods.

the original beast wars and reboot are exceptional shows, but I think that's mostly down to the writing and voice acting, and maybe the designs, those were pretty good too

At least they dont know about the sequel show BeastMachines, where they reintroduced vehicles to the Beast Wars characters so their designs were both Animal, Robot, and Mechanical, and looked like CRONENBERG NIGHTMARES.

I grew up in a Jewish household but strangely enough my mom got me Veggietales VHS’s. It was mostly the stories that were based off of stuff before Jesus.

last time I watched a veggie tales it was about pirates who don't do anything and I don't remember anything but I kind want to rewatch just to remember how they insert religious messaging into it.

Veggietales is kind of fascinating, because while it was born of the idea of a "youth religion christianity education" show, it's really not too heavy-handed in its messaging and seems to have understood it was important to stay entertaining - a lot of the crew cite Monty Python of all things in how they'd construct scenes and write for it. If only all religious propaganda could be this innocuous.

Beast Wars is the only Transformers show I care anything about. It's too bad it never got a good follow up. The Beast Wars animes are probably the best.

I'm not really sure where the line goes where something stops being early CGI. ReBoot came out in 1994 and while it does look worse if you compare it side to side with some early 2000's CGI shows like Butt-Ugly Martians and VeggieTales, they all have that dated CGI look. If CGI is done for budget reason you tend to just get static models that look way better than they did 20 years ago, but the animation hasn't improved that much on the cheap stuff.

BTW, Sonex is right. VeggieTales started in 1993 and Reboot in 1994. Also, to correct something about VeggieTales. It was technically "christian" but only in that it told stories from the Bible, while also putting a comedic spin on it. I constantly see Adum bashing Christian works and programming, but I don't think he realizes how many super popular and well beloved films there are that either tell stories from the Bible or have Christian influences. The Ten Commandments and The Book of Eli come to mind.

It's well crafted children's content but it was undeniably "Christian" media. It had Christian musical numbers and non-story vignettes explicitly discussing Christian morals. I liked it as a child well enough but it wasn't something we were watching in our own homes as poor rural Southerners. It was only ever something watched in explicitly religious households or in Sunday school, vbs, etc.. Weird to try and distance it from its *very* explicit Christian messaging. Religion can suck and religious people can still make entertaining art influenced by and/or directly based on explicitly religious stories.

@@kylegonewild I literally am only saying that non Christians can still enjoy the show, which is why it got so popular. Our family is not religious, but we still enjoyed it because it was legitimately funny and taught good morals. I'm a southerner too, but yeah. It wasn't only Christians that watched it and the Bible itself, even if you don't believe in God or Jesus, is a historical document.

It's children's indoctrination material. I can enjoy religious themed media because I grew up Christian and it's ingrained in western culture but it's pretty obvious what veggietales is.

I grew up with veggie tales and I still enjoy it (even though It even if I’m no longer a believer of god). I still think that it is a funny show and that kids could learn actual lessons and not have agree with the whole religious aspect.

So I may be the dumbest boy because I was exposed to and watched Veggietales and was completely oblivious to the Christian stuff in it. My brain was not registering that it was talking about Christianity, despite how explicit, and it took me years after to learn that it was a Christian-centered show. All I was focusing/registering with was the funny talking vegetables.
