Great to see Newport getting the Carlisle treatment, zoom wise Leslie. That must have been a long day for you. Will have to do an afternoon shift sometime after seeing what you got. It was good to see you again. All the best.

Thanks Tim. It was good to see you and appreciate the info you gave. I finished at 4:30 but could easily (it turned out) have stayed on the platforms for another hour and seen several more freights, 67s and 43 Castles!

Well, Leslie. that was another grand assortment! Loved that 67 "Royal Diamond." Definitely some historical bits and brought back quite a few memories from our trips to Cardiff through Newport and into Newport proper to go up to Gloucester. You even got our friend Tim Dowd on video a couple times. I believe you even met and chatted? Anyhow, best wishes and thanks for another station tour!

Great Video Leslie. It was my home town station but I haven't been to Newport for a number of years. What a lot of changes not withstanding the wires going up. It looks like the main booking hall under the front building has been closed off. Godfrey Road sidings and stabling point has also gone. It also looks like some major re-development work is going on on the island platform. However, i did notice that at least one of the "OLD" GWR benches was still in situ , with the GWR Scroll ends. There used to be a GWR shirt button type and also the later BR(W) as well. I don't suppose you noticed if they were still in place ?

The old main building is part of a university now.All the facilities moved to the 'west end' with the steel snail as booking office. Sadly the refreshment facilities are a counter on P4, They've been working on P2/3 for well over 2 years now.

Class 150 and 153s, who would have thought it a good idea to diagram these on an intercity route!

My thought too! I suspect they were back-ups as a 67 and set had failed that morning. There again, from what more than one person has commented to me, the new 197 DMUs suffer from very poor suspension.

Those two Class 153s at the end, together as built (Class 155)! As you point out, nearly a half-century of British railway hardware. It's a pity that after asking the question you did not show us the answer.

I forgot. I agree that seeing the 153s running as a 155 is amusing - although without checking weren't the original cabs in the centre of the train? Hard to think there are 155s still in original formation.

What a great selection Les. 66728, heading the engineers working, has the look of a loco that had previously been employed on rail head treatment duty by the state of it!

Brilliant stuff Leslie in a great location, One question for you - did many get off that 2 car 150 to make way for the poor sods hoping to get on ?

I was surprised so many people did get off. Usually people travelling from Cardiff to Newport have more taste! Or maybe a 150 offers more comfort than an 800 or worse a 197!

And to think GBRf usually keep a very smart and tidy fleet! Next steam I know of is 10 December with Flying scotsman, I think. We had a brief vist from Sir Nigel Gresley in tow behind a 20 on Monday

Nice variety of things. I was planning to go to Cardiff for the day but Newport is closer for me... and cheaper! Is there really anything that goes through Cardiff that doesn't go through Newport? A change of plan may be in order!

Newport is easier to to photograph at and as you suggest most if not all freight ends up going through Newport. Thanks for watching

A nice change of venue Les, The 197 unit is more than ugly, the 802 unit with the open cowling wasn't very aerodynamic and wouldn't have been appreciated by Sir Nigel.

I was surprised how many 80xs had their coupling doors open. Apparently they are supposed to close wgen the unit exceeds a certain low speed. Thanks for watching
