Twelve Foot Ninja is a really special band. Insanely unique combo of Karnivool + Faith No More + Tool + Reggae + Latin + who knows what else they're thinking of at any given time. Fun to listen to as well as having some of the best music videos in the game aside from MAYBE Mastodon. Who I just realized I don't think you've listened to...Look up some Mastodon soon! "Oblivion" "Asleep In The Deep" or "Steambreather" are good places to start!

Stevic MacKay, one of their guitarists, uses a Line 6 Variax system so that he can simulate different guitar tunings in the same song. It is a modeler bases system and sounds great, as you just heard.
@TheDiscrepator

Yeah, actually the Shuriken Line 6 he uses is his signature guitar. He worked with Line 6 for that model. The sound even when it emulates an acustic guitar is reeeally awesome.

Your reaction was EXACTLY like mine, haha! It's so great to see REAL musicians appreciating how very talented and diverse music can still be out there. I'm allergic to today's popular "creations" and have little respect for the simplicity and mundane repetition that is so richly rewarded by the masses. That being said, I have to constantly remind myself that 99% of consumers just don't hear music the same way that this guy, myself, and others do. We also agree on lyrical content. I could care less about the message if there's not a statement also made sonically. Good to know we're not extinct yet!

Love this band. They have so much silly and comedic content in their music, but also consistently create really rhythmically and harmonically interesting stuff. The chords during the chorus between the guitar and vocals+backing vocals are really unusual and interesting. Love that the vocalist lets those clear Mike Patton influences come through too.

I first heard this band through my Spotify radio, on music related to Protest the Hero. This is is so far the only song I've heard from them, but considering it's a contender for my favorite song ever, I've been a bit scared to look into the rest of their stuff, as to not get disappointed. One absolute banger of a song, and a great breakdown by you, as always. I must say though; The direct link to the song on KZfaq sends to a different song and band.

Watched this video last night and ended up staying up until 4 just listening through their songs and adding to my playlist. One of my bands already, the fact that they aren’t much bigger shows everything wrong with the music world of today. Kin Etik (the singer) has a really interesting vocal style where he slides between notes rather than holding them still and it really fits well with the changes in key and melody they like to implement. You can hear so many different genres and influences within their style and sound, from Faith no more to Opeth etc. Their clean transitions remind me of System of a Down

Maybe my fastest sub ever. This guy rocks. He nailed TFN's demeanor by listening to only half of a song. And I love how we wasn't afraid to just let it play until he felt a grip on it. New fan.

Karnivool is another great Australian band. I was introduced with a song called “Cote”. I would say they don’t do anything necessarily “risky” like these guys, but when you really listen to them, there’s a lot of depth that you might not catch if you’re just paying attention to the surface.

Fun fact about guitarist Stevic, he did a vid displaying the uniqueness of his custom line 6 guitar by playing 18 different tunings in one song. Insane

This reminds me of something, I think you'd have lots of fun reacting to something by Mr. Bungle, they got kinda of this quirky aspect to them too

Yeah, I was definitely getting Faith No More vibes. I've heard a little bit of 12'N, but never really *listened* to them.

One of their earlier songs, "Coming for you" was the first ones I heard of theirs. They have a lot of fun with their music, but when they want to get serious they can also just own the sound. See: Deluge.

I've seen these guys live and they delivered! My favorite moment in that show? Guitarist can't open his water bottle, singer asks 'Want me to help you?", takes it and flips the lid up. Hands it back and says : "It's not rocket science..."

One of the guitar players has a wild set up where he can change the tune range of each string or maybe even down to the note. Nuts stuff. So thats how they jump sound so easy...

Really love this track, never heard of them... but they remind me a lot of some of Mike Patton's more experimental work / early Faith No More... lead vocals even sound similar in parts. Like a built in love factor for me. Will check them out.

Go listen to their last two albums. Mr. Bungle meets modern prog metal. He even sounds like a range limited Patton.
