Made it yesterday. First time using condensed milk. It was the BEST custard pie I have ever eaten whether I made it or bought it from a store. Thanks. Your mama gave you a recipe to remember.

Man aw, man. My granny would do nothing but cook. From cooking greens, cornbread, mac and cheese, fried pork chops, candy yams and bake a dessert. But for the holiday's people would pay her to bake for them. But when she baked she baked. Caramel or chocolate cake from scratch with swan down cake flour. Her sweet 🥔 and 🥚 🥧 was so delicious. Chicken dressing good lawd. I miss my granny.

Thanks! This was one of my FAVORITE pie in the 70's. My grandmother used to make them for me when I would get home from school. She passed in 1987!!! Thanks!!

Right! The original recipe calls for nutmeg. Lol but many people don’t know that. There’s so many different ways to make it now… but the very first one ever made was created with nutmeg.

Nutmeg isn't 100% necessary you get the exact same taste with cinnamon

It would be beneficial to provide the recipe in the Description 4 Eggs 1/2 cp Sugar 1 tsp Vanilla Extract 1 Stick Butter, room temp 1 Pie crust 1. Cream together Eggs, sugar, vanilla, butter 2. Pour into pie crust 3. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes

That’s not sweetened condensed milk he added. It doesn’t pour that fast. It’s evaporated milk!❤

Was that condensed milk or evaporated milk? Because condensed milk is thicker than that. What you poured in looked like evaporated milk.

It's not condensed milk, it's evaporated milk...condensed milk doesn't come in 12oz

Ok so I used evaporated milk and it turned out perfect. It will definitely please all of my family during the holidays. By far the easiest custard pie to make with few ingredients. This is the only recipe I noticed that uses butter. Thank you!

I think that was evaporated milk, not condensed milk. Condensed milk is thick and you could tell that poured out fast.

Just an FYI. You should always cream your butter and sugar until smooth and then add your eggs one at a time. The last step should be to add your milk.

Sorry. It I made this pie yesterday and did not care for it. I’ve made many egg custard pies and I think too much butter and I think the taste was off due to using only evaporated milk just did not have that good taste for some reason looked like u poured evaporated milk and not sweetened condensed milk which is so thick u have to almost scrape it out of the can. Can u clarify which u used?

That was evaporated milk and not condensed milk. Big difference. Condensed milk will not pour from the can quickly like your did. Had to have been evaporated milk.

Are you sure the milk you used was Condensed milk? The milk you added was not viscous as Condensed milk should be.

Yeah I wondered the same thing as well. It looked like evaporated milk. Condensed milk has a much thicker consistency than evaporated. 1/2 c sugar + a can of condensed milk for 1 pie? Oh man, that would've been one overly sweet custard pie for me but to each's own.
