The RAT salmon fly pattern is a classic example of a hair wing salmon fly pattern. These are great fun to tie and by all accounts wonderful fish catchers as well. They get their name from the initials of Mr. Roy Angus Thompson (R.A.T.) who is credited as the patterns creator. The color in the name is dictated by the color of the body created with the floss through the pattern. In this case I have referred to it as an "Old Gold RAT" as the Semperfli floss I am using is called Old Gold. Hopefully it is a fun and useful pattern for those of you who try it and if you are of the inclination to post photos I would love to see what you create so feel free to tag me if you do.
Happy Tying Everyone
