Living in the northeast, where we have basements for our mechanical systems, it's strange to see so many HVAC systems lying on their sides in crawlspaces and attics.

Even stranger are the package units sitting on a slab or in the dirt outside.

And you guys get all the fun stuff with oil and boilers! Here out west it's all gas furnaces located in the basement or closet.

I live and work in NJ and it's very common to see them in crawl spaces. It's not the ideal area but being in the HVAC trade I've seen many in crawl spaces.

I’ve been doing hvac residential for 4 years now and I find it funny to see old grande aire products from Nordyne and how they are still around, but now grande aire is ICP and nordyne is garbage. It’s funny how the names cycle and change.

One UV light 😂 Two UV lights 🤣🤣 A slick salesman talked my neighbor into one 10 years ago with their overpriced and rather sloppy new system installation. Reminded me of the old car dealership scam selling the Paint Protection coating.

That might be the dog house. Or a hideout for the man of the house. 😂😂😂😂 🪑 under the house. Could have been where the male kid was learning about his blank. Watch out for tissues and petroleum jelly products.

"Not to bad of install" pretty bad if you need to use block to support furnace. Hang the furnace with unistrut and isolators. If it is done correctly it will not block any access to any of the doors.

Makes noise in the house. Vibration etc. I prefer a solid block foundation. Just my opinion.

@TedCookHVAC I've seen hundreds of furnaces and air handlers installed on unistrut. When done correctly there is no vibration or noise. I think installing furnaces on block just looks cheap and there is no pride in the job. Just my opinion...

Love your videos and your work ethic. Question: Do you like UV lights on the air duct returns? Are they useful? I have had one, Air Scrubber, installed now for 2 plus years. I changed the bulb after 2 years as reccomended. When I did the cage was about 1/4 blocked with dust. This year I will remove it after one year and clean the cage. Are they worth it?

Charles, I know that your comment and question were meant for Ted. But it was posted 8 days ago and nobody has replied yet. I have been an HVACR installer and tech for just under 20 years now. My "Personal opinion" is that the UV lights DO actually work, but ONLY if they are well maintained. As for My own experience, I have found that if your ductwork is SEALED PROPERLY from end to end they are not necessary. If your Return duct is COMPLETELY SEALED all the way from the filter rack to the unit, and your SUPPLY DUCT is COMPLETELY SEALED from the unit to each run and each run is COMPLETELY SEALED all the way from the ductwork trunk line to the boot that holds the register for the release of the air, you should not have any dust or contaminants that are hazardous. Most dust and irritants are coming from the ductwork Not being properly sealed. If your floor boots (under the register/vent) have ANY GAPS around them no matter how small, it WILL pull outside air and contaminants such as dust/mold/mildew and smells from around it. If your ductwork is in the attic and is surrounded by insulation then you are distributing fine particles of the insulation throughout the house if the boots are not sealed properly. But the short answer is : In My opinion, the UV lights are a waste of money. You would be better off to have someone come in and seal EVERY joint of the ductwork with a paint like material known as "MASTIC". It is a very thick rubbery paint that is DESIGNED for ductwork.

Motor was a few days out from Nordyne or Nortech or whoever now... new system was in stock and they had heat the very next day..... not to mention AC was also leaking R22 the last 2 years in a row ... no brainer on the replacement system being the smarter option.

Can't those motors be oiled? All that is wrong are the bearings are dry due to poorly used/designed bearings for the purpose. Usually the air isn't ideally clean and those tiny open to the elements bearings which get contaminated and dry since they are typically sleeve bearings vs. sealed ball bearings that provide longer service. I get it that as a business and for warranty purposes, a new condensate motor/fan assy is the way to go however, just for conversation, sometimes those will continue to run for years with some oil, something temporary while the customer thinks about their options.
@TedCookHVAC

no. they are sealed bearing motors.
