Definitely this. Certainly don't mind a few breaks in the music for sharing genuine perspective. Especially to break down unique technical nuances that other reactor channels may be completely ignorant of. Some channels focus on shock value. And, that is fine. Some channels are hosted by those who seek trends or wish to expand their exposure to music. And, that is fine. Some channels are dedicated entirely to vocal critique. And, that is fine. This one delves into the technical aspects of composition. Perfect for me. Can't wait until the obligatory Nightwish chapter has its well-deserved opportunity to be reviewed from this unique perspective. Very few modern bands within the rock genre can come close to compositional mastery when compared to Tool and Nightwish. Unleash the Archers might be close by their next album.

Killer reaction to a killer track, love it. You are fast becoming one of my favorite reactors. I've been into this genre for about 2 years, I got into it watching reactors who are into hip hop/rap listening to metal/rock for the first time in any meaningful manner. Which makes it interesting for obvious reasons. Along that journey the vocal coach reactors started popping up, the enjoyment from them (I'm not factoring in anyone's personality, just what they bring to the table otherwise if that makes sense) is of course they dissect the tracks on a more technical level with a focus on the singing. Then we start seeing the reactions from the composers, the engineers, etc. The really technical group, but there are a lot less of you. The fans aren't kidding when they drone on about how freakishly technical, creative and cerebral Tool is, so when I see you picking up on all the meter changes, overlapping time signatures, the poly-rhythms, their use of the Fibonacci Sequence as a way to count syllables in the singing, and all the other crazy shit this band messes with I get almost giddy, lol. I'm not a musician or engineer or anything, just a music fan who's been into this band from their beginnings (my fav band btw) and has just learned about this stuff along the way. It's so nice to see these things we as fans talk about, realized by an expert and professional in the biz who isn't familiar with the band (yet) whom explains it all to use plebs so we can REALLY start to understand this stuff as a lil more than laymen. Anyways I'm stoned as fuck and eating mozzarella sticks and rootbeer while I watch this and type out my reaction to your reaction and I'm rambling, lol. I hope you stick with this because yer good at it, your content and personality are damn enjoyable my friend. Signed - Some Asshole townie from Boston :D

Maynard's vocal is a next level mix of alternative shoegaze innocence at times with militant metal man and also, especially in this song, a kind of hard rock R&B soulfulness of notes in his lines. As he's singing on the outro, he's doing similar stuff Hank Williams did to bend his lines in kind of Bluesy ways. The guy also arranges and writes all his vocal lines against the other guys' music! Maynard is a highly talented, very intellectual musician as are all the Tool members.

Really appreciate your comments on how those brief moments of 4/4 help cleanse the sonic palette as you put it. After listening to Tool for so long, I've recognized when those moments occur instinctually, but never really understood technically the why. Regarding Maynard position during a live show, there's a bunch of rumors that go around that its some kind of performance anxiety or discomfort being up front, but that's really not the case. In the earlier days of Tool, MJK was upfront most of the time (think on that Sober video you watched) but as the band really matured into Aenima and Lateralus, he decided to refocus the audiences attention more towards the band as a whole since they are as key to their sound and success as he is. He's talked about how he deeply respects each member and their sonic contribution and enjoys watching THEM play live. When you come back from hiatus, two recommendations. If you want to go the third eye route (literally), and go really deep into the Tool ocean, there is a track by the same name on the Aenima album which is unlike anything you've heard. Or elsewhere in the depths of their catalogue and given other videos on your channel prior to these reaction videos, I think you'd especially appreciate the three tracks together of Disposition-Reflection-Triad, musically, lyrically, spiritually, and technically.

I absolutely love The Pot. It is for sure my favorite Tool song. But I have to say, that part at around 12:27 is just mind blowing. As you said, I feel like this is a reintroduction to the main riff of the song which, although sounds rhythmically very interesting, is a pretty straight forward 4/4. BUT Danny just decides to mess with our brains and while the whole band is nailing the pocket of this huge groove, his feet are playing a 5/8 figure in the bass drum, which transforms this rhythm in something so much more layered and complex. It is pretty amazing.

Bottom is an underrated Tool track and should get some recognition, I’d love if you could react to it. A bit of an older one, but so great. It has Henry Rollins have a part on it, I also made a cover of it for anyone willing to check it out. But I love seeing new Tool fans going on a very familiar journey through the music, keep it up I really love seeing it 👍

This goes way deeper than a 15th century mastermind. This goes back to when shamans kept history untarnished by repeating it to eachother while high,- so that the stories became hardwired and distributed equally among all who participated. Music and Pot is the root of our extended perception of time, separating us from most animals by lightyears. If we lose our touch with music and pot, we lose our perception of time and fall victim to our own instincts. This song is beyond politics and religion, it's about recording life.
