English - Welcome to another train presentation from Schony747. You will see new train presentations on a Thursday.
SSR is a freight company based here in Australia. Most of it's operations are in Victoria and New South Wales. Many of the locomotives are old enough to be running around in a museum. SSR do a fantastic job keeping these old things running. Rail enthusiasts love the locomotive combinations as the older stuff has character and sound that you don't always get from the moder locomotive.
All trains featured in this presentation are still running with SSR in 2019. The youngest locomotive is 442s1 (former 44230) which went into service July 1972. The oldest is B61 from August 1962. These trains are seen running in Victoria on both Standard Gauge and Broad Gauge. SSR hauls grain trains here in Victoria and other light engine movements.
List of Locos and in service date -

This is awesome. Nice to see real old stuff still running. The GP11s on my local shortline in the US were built in 1957 and I'm pretty sure they have the same prime mover as these things. Not sure, but sounds the same.. Love the sound of them revving up and cool to see that it's a sound heard on the other side of the world as well as in my backyard in Pittsburgh!

It makes me really happy to see so many Carbodies' still in service down under. I wish they got the had the same level of long term use here in the US. Would love to see a UP F7 in front of a main line freight over Donner Pass (Id rather it be SP but thats besides the point). Can an Aussie Foamer tell me why exactly Carbody type diesels have remained in operation/manufacture for so long?

To me it would make perfect sense to run the newer stuff. Obviously some companies such as SSR see value in the old bangers which is surprising as I'm told they take alot to maintain.

Hi Schony! Did you see the name of locomotive B61, "Bernie Baker"? That locomotive in the Streamliners Australia livery is named after Southern Shorthaul Railroad's locomotive driver trainer, Bernie Baker from Parkes in New South Wales - as you mentioned in a reply to a comment, they have just purchased CLP10 and are in the process of restoring her. I should know - I was one of the 450 people who donated to Bernie's crowdfunding campaign to keep CLP10 in Australia

In Germany it is normal that Locos produced in the late 1950s are still very active in regular service, mostly as freight locomotives. The type 140 electrical locomotive, for instance, was first produced in 1957, with a total production of about 900 copies. It was withdrawn from service with the Deutsche Bahn (German national railways) in 2016, but there are several private railway companies that operate a large number of modernised type 140 locos, and they are highly appreciated for their reliability and ruggedness. There are several other types, such as shunting locomotives and even express-train locos from the fifties and early sixties that received new equipment or in some cases new engines which are are still in widespread service today...

The older locos have a lower rating so you need a lot of locos to even get close to some of the modern locos such as the NR for example.

7:14 Were these dead in tow or DPU power? 7:22 What are these? Passenger cars, obviously, but was this a movement of a set or just extras being hauled somewhere for whatever reason?

All locos were on line for the transfer. This was one of the early new HCMT train transfers and as such needed the extra locos and flat wagons for brake insurance. Now it's a couple of locos with the train only.

NO! not a E7 or similar. The E7 design and components pre date these locos by 15-20 years. The E7 was from a much earlier time and place. Just a coincidence that they look similar. BTW, I photoed 3 PC and one CRI&P E7 in the past. They are all scrapped. Only 1 E7 remains, in Pennsylvania.

Great video once again Just a couple of questions. What is all that earthworks they are doing between West Footscray & Tottenham? The line that runs through Wycheproof is that slated to be converted to Standard Gauge? Those double S Class running through Kensington look & sound awesome. Catch up regularly with them in Kensington when I visit my mechanic Gary at Silver Repairs @ 444 Macaulay Rd Kensington. Sad to see SSR grain wagons graffiti they do such a great job SSR keeping them graffiti clean but it must be costly. Just had my work van graffiti on absolutely disgusting how these arseholes have no respect for people's property, just want to catch one of them they never do it again. How many C Class does SSR operate? Have you a list of the loco's that have recently fallen to the blow torch alongside Dynon Rd? What ever happen to the CLF Loco that was park up to the entrance of Qube park or Dynon Facility couple of years ago must of been there at least 3 years & the Union Pacific Yellow passenger wagon. I remember when both of them turned up, I checked out the wagon so old school within a week graffiti & smashed windows. I kept an eye on it but never caught anyone same with the CLF too Keep the great video's rolling in. How about a video at the level crossing on Sunshine Rd there with the Kilmore Stone Train. Thinking of a train spotting cafe in Middle Footscray do you think it's a good idea?

Wycheproof is listed for conversion to SG. All CLPS to my knowledge are at Goulburn. SSR have purchased a few. All PN A class except A78 got the case axe along with a T class from memory.

Maybe railroads in the good old u.s.a could learn a thing or to . Just because a locomotive has a little age on it doesn't mean it can't still get the job done. It's called preventive maintenance . Alot cheaper than spending millions on new one's all the time. Seen u.s. railroads scrap newer locomotives than these. What a waste. Great video nice to see the old war horses still getting the job done after all these years. A true testament that new is not always better and that things wear built to last back then.

The fact that these locos are still running around is a testament to the build quality and reliability. Having said that, the newer locos are far more powerful and generally have less failures than the old girls.
