All of this talk about Old Money vs New Money.... but let's talk about why the old money vs new money aesthetic doesn't even matter when it comes down to your personal style. Let's see some examples of both old money and new money aesthetics and then combine, borrow and add to find some new outfit ideas built on personal style.

Diana, you're a breath of fresh air!!! Thank you! I often say that I'm "old (but not a lot of) money" . I love classic clothes, as high quality as I can afford, but I like to wear them with some colour and quirky bits. That's me. Not fussy, not trendy, just me.

Thank you Sylvie! High quality is really the key. You can't save cheap jersey knits or lazy design. I have always found wonderful, high quality clothing for less than what new cheap clothing costs! I spend my money on good skin care and travel.

What matters is integrity, good manners, kindness and with this one naturally has class. Yes, new money or old, who cares. Trashy people have money and live trashy lives. It’s not money that gives one class, integrity or style but character. Well breeding isn’t a rich thing. You were well bred and taught either rich or poor. My grandmother always said, “Even the poor can of afford a bar of soap.” Meaning there is no reason to not clean yourself up. Dress properly and classy.

I like the black flats you’re wearing with the big polka dot dress. But not WITH the big polka dot dress. They seem a little heavy. But that’s just me!

I think from a style standpoint I wouldn't pick them either, but from a personal standpoint, I like them because this looks almost like a flamenco dancer outfit which I think is fun, and they're so walkable. I really wish I could dance like a flamenco dancer, so I'll just pretend!

I think I dress like I have SOME MONEY, but I carefully shop sales and thrift stores. Dress for fun and energy! Hmm, who taught me about that!

Idk, I think Lilly Pulitzer dresses and Nantucket Reds pants & shorts prove old money loves bright colors, they’re simply more careful about appropriate timing. This is something those TikTok accounts don’t understand. But I’m with you on personal style mattering more.

I loved all of those looks on you 😍. I would personally be more inclined to the boring old money style, but only because I lack the confidence to be more bold in my choices. I am not a fan of all the logos on clothing, it is too desperate for attention.

The old money looks are easy and look great. Nothing wrong with choosing those. If you're not obsessed with patterns and colors like me, it's definitely the safest way to go!
