OLD SCHOOL TEA CAKES( for my mom for her Mother’s Day enjoyment)

OLD SCHOOL TEA CAKES !!!
This is a simple recipe
My recipe is a little different than most
I use buttermilk ( that's the secret)
You cannot just eat one of these
ENJOY!!
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tsp nutmeg
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl sift flour, baking soda, and baking powder together. Add remaining ingredients and blend well. Dough should be soft
. Roll dough out onto a floured surface until approximately 1/4-inch thick.
and cover with plastic wrap and chill for 1-2 hours, Cut dough into desired shapes and bake on a slightly greased sheet for 10 to 12 minutes.
MAKES ABOUT 3 DOZEN TEA CAKES

My grandma made tea cakes when I was a kid haven't had any since grandma passed away now that I have the recipe thank u again.😍🏫🏫🏫😍😍

I remember we had a great aunt, that would make these in the 80s. I can’t find anyone that makes them like her. It had a specific taste. I only taste it on the crunchy ends. And, I always have to remember, nothing is the same. So I’ll probably never taste that taste again.

I have never heard of tea cakes until I moved to Houston...seems like it is a specialty here.

We love tea cakes and pecan candy in the south lol. I live a little farther down south close to the coast but lived in Houston and Fort Worth for years. I eat either pecan candy or tea cakes at least once a week.

Omg!!!!! I use,to love these tea,cakes as a kid!!! My grandmother made these and they would be so chewy coming right out the oven with the crispy edges!! Yummie. Sir is there anything you haven't cook!! You are truly the bomb chief!!!😋🔥🍮🍰🍖🍗🍤🍞🍊🍎🌽🧀

My grandma use to make theses for us when I was a child. Every day after school we didn’t eat cookies from a grocery store we ate grandma’s t- cakes! !🤣

WOW , TEA CAKES...my mom used to make these when I was a kid. She hasn’t made them in decades. She will be 90 years old on her next birthday and doesn’t do a lot of cooking anymore. Thanks for bringing back good childhood memories.

I’ve tried a few diff recipes trying to find the tea cakes I used to get from the cookie lady as a kid. This one is finally it. The only thing I did differently was added a little lemon juice. Bless you for sharing this! Subbed!

You can substitute half the sugar for equal Amount of Splenda in the bagThis will reduce the sugar and they’re still good😋
