Cool saw. Fist saws I used as 12/13 yo kid learning. My old man cut and sold firewood for many years. He ran old homelites back then in early 90s. I actually got him ato switch to Husqvarna 😂

Runs good for an old school saw! Might just fatten up the low end some to help with off idle power.

Dig that saw in the kerf and then tune the low jet those 266 carbs are a bear to tune on the saws they came on, seems to me like The width of the screwdriver blade off of just right was a noticeable change on those carbs

Now that is awsome seeing that old school homelite come to life! Did you have to pump the oiler i dont think the old saws had automatic oilers did they?
@S-tank_ Жыл бұрын
Auto oilers started coming out around the late 60's early 70's and was pretty standard soon after although there were lots of saws like this xl76 that were auto oilers but also had the manual oiler in case you needed a little more oil. So in other words, just cuz it's a manual oiler don't mean it ain't a auto oiler too. This one is both

You can't fatten up the low jet alittle to fix the throttle problem?

There’s not much that smells better than an engine running on castor oil. That old Homelite has heaps of old school character and Smitty’s done great putting it together.

So these newfangled saws ain’t really come that far along in the what 50yrs that that old ass saw (in good shape and worked on) keeps right up with the modern saws yet the expense is outrageous for these new ones.
@novicelumberjack Жыл бұрын
In the '70s, the XL-76 probably cost somewhere between $159-$259. With inflation, that's between $1,240- $2,030. Chainsaws are RIDICULOUSLY cheap now compared to what they used to be. I once purchased a Poulan 3400 from the original owner who bought it new around 1986. He still had the original receipt of purchase. I think he paid over $600 for that saw. That is $1,664 in today's money. Yeah, back in the day...saws were ridiculously expensive. That would be like buying a 455 Rancher for $1,600!
