I had one of these as a kid, and loved it. When my mom moved out of her house a few years ago, it had to be given away unfortunately, as it was too complicated for me to carry it on the plane back to the US. Recently, I bought one on ebay for a good price, and have it on display. It's a cool and very high quality toy.

I still have one from 1969...same colour...amazing that my dad gave it me to me when I was 8 yours old...Would parents now give a child a toy powered by fire and steam??
@jankotze19594 жыл бұрын

well if your parents are steam punks like I am, I would give my son one of these. Sadly he is is high school now, so I may be able to get my boss to buy a few kits for our science teachers. I work at a private high school as the assistant principal and I can get our boss (our principal) to order a few of these kits. So my son hopefully will be able to experience live steam in person and in miniature!

Seems like the Drive engagement could be smoother. Does it have a friction clutch or does that lever simply move the drive gear and flywheel gear into mesh? I have 2 Wilesco stationary engines and I'm considering one of their traction engines.
@jankotze19597 жыл бұрын
Hi, there is no clutch but you can stop the engine and then mesh in the gear, that is the correct way to do it, at that point I was still inexperienced with it, but I learned on the go. thanks for the comment, it will be good to see your engines.

Jan Kotze Thanks for your reply! I have a D20 and D455, and it looks like the arrangement on this tractor is basically the same as the 455, minus the transmission of course. I'll look into getting one of these!

I own this very same model but mine seems to be lacking a lot of power. Stationary it's just able to keep itself running, but when I engage drive it never runs more than a few metres.

There can be a view reasons, fill the tank max 3/4 full, add thin oil to all moving parts including the piston, ensure the water is cooking before drive off, are there seals on the water inlet, and over pressure valve, what type of burning material do you use, it need constant flames for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Remember to close the throttle so that steam can build up, ones the water cooks then start the motor, Sorry I don't know your set up so I mentioned all the important things that it will need to be effective, please let me know or make a video my friend

+Jan Kotze I have done all of that, I tried multiple both solid Esbit Fuel and methylated spirit, the last one seems to work best. I made a video on it a few days ago: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8-Bgs110timoZ8.html

Thats great! 👍 Would normal firelighters be okay for these ?
@jankotze19593 жыл бұрын
Hi Jake, no fire lighters makes a big flame, I nearly had a crises when I tried it, I have a video up on my channel where it took fire, lucky I could stop the fire before there was damage

It is possible (with some modification) to fire one on small coal? And could it pull a person if it was “amped up a bit”!......
@jankotze19596 жыл бұрын
I don't think a coal will boil the water but is worth trying, it will not pull a person
